Former Dallas Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo may not have been able to bring his team to a Super Bowl, but he spent several years as a steady and exciting quarterback for the franchise. Now, he spends his time around football up in the booth calling games. Not only was the Pro Bowler a fan favorite on the field, but he is widely loved as an analyst and known for predicting plays before they happen.

On a recent episode of the “Maggie and Perl Show,” the two hosts asked the CBS analyst how he feels about the state of the Cowboys heading into 2022.

The person he felt most confident about? The man who broke his franchise records for most touchdowns in a single season last year: Dak Prescott.

While many amongst Cowboys Nation live to hate Prescott, the 28-year-old is poised to have a big year after finally having a fully-healthy offseason to get in meaningful practice and back in shape. Romo thinks this is his successor’s year to shine:

"“I think Dak Prescott is going to have a fantastic year… He’s played at a high level for a long time now. I think he’s going to be good. He’s going to play good football. He’s going to give them a chance to win every week he plays.”"

Tony Romo thinks Dak Prescott will be “fantastic” this year but has one concern for the Cowboys

As important as quarterbacks are in today’s NFL, they simply can’t do it alone. Therein lies Romo’s biggest concern for the Cowboys in 2022: how the team will fair without Prescott’s favorite target, Amari Cooper. The former QB said the issue is “going to change things a little bit.” He feels that someone in the receiving corps needs to really step up in order to allow the Cowboys to have success in the air.

When asked if he was surprised that the Cowboys didn’t bring in any big stars this year, Romo said he wasn’t surprised because the front office had invested a lot of money on in-house star players over the years. The former Cowboy thinks the team may go back to relying on the run game to make up for Cooper’s absence.

Most feel confident in CeeDee Lamb’s ability to lead this group, but Romo didn’t mention him when speaking about his fear of the loss of Cooper.

Can Prescott be fantastic without Cooper? Only time will tell.
