5. Defensive End

Cowboys Free Agents – Randy Gregory, Brent Urban, Dorance Armstrong

Possible Defensive Snaps Lost – 1,105

Possible Special Teams Snaps Lost – 134

The last group on this list is one of the most important in terms of building on the success the Cowboys defense had last season. The amount of pressure Dallas was able to generate off the edge was a major factor in the resurgence of the secondary and showed that the Cowboys need to have speed on the outside to get constant pressure on the quarterback.

Randy Gregory was able to provide that speed and when DeMarcus Lawrence went down and teams focused on Gregory, Parsons was able to fill in and bring speed off the opposite edge. Now with Gregory hitting free agency, the Cowboys need to find another speed rusher opposite Lawrence if they are unable to keep Gregory.

They don’t want to lock Parsons in at that position because he’s most effective being moved all over the defensive front. After safety, the Cowboys should be looking to fill this position with more speed in an effort to build a strong pass rush going into the future. They had a good start taking defensive tackle Osa Odighizuwa in the middle of the defensive line and defensive end Chauncey Golston, but he’s more of a left end than a right end. The Cowboys need another right defensive end out of this draft.
