Prediction: Lack of offensive line depth will continue to haunt this team

Following a season where your two starting tackles, Tyron Smith and La’el Collins played a combined two games due to injuries, you’d figure improving the quality of depth would have been a focus this offseason. It wasn’t. And that fact could quickly sink the Cowboys season once again.

This preseason revealed that the Cowboys have some serious issues at swing tackle and backup center. As of now, the plan seems to be that left guard Connor Williams will move to center if needed. That’s despite Williams’ struggles in the preseason.

As for swing tackle, free-agent veteran Ty Nsekhe would seemingly be the answer despite some inconsistent play in the preseason. Although second-year offensive tackle Terence Steele and veteran Brandon Knight should also be in the mix.

Regardless, this group doesn’t appear to be any better than they were last season when it comes to depth. And that’s a really bad thing.

Perhaps final cuts will afford an opportunity to improve the depth at both spots. Other than that, fans must hope the aging trio of Tyron Smith, La’el Collins, and right guard Zack Martin can stay healthy.
