Who will make a final push for a roster spot?

This might be the biggest reason to watch the Cowboys’ preseason finale against the Jaguars on Sunday afternoon. This game is typically referred to as the Roster Bubble Bowl. That’s due to the fact this contest is often a showcase for players on the roster bubble or on the fringe of making the team’s final 53-man roster.

While the team has likely made their minds up on about 97% of the players who will make the final cut in Dallas, there’s still a chance someone who performs well in this preseason finale can sway the front office and coaching staff to choose them over another. And that’s the allure of this contest.

While any Cowboys player who participates in this final preseason matchup is unlikely to have a major impact on the upcoming regular season, the fact is you never know. As the rash of injuries that the team suffered last season taught us, having quality depth along the roster is sometimes the difference between a winning and losing season and going to the playoffs or not.

A few positional battles we’ll be watching closely are at running back, wide receiver, swing tackle, defensive tackle, safety, and cornerback. Just some of the questions we’d like to see answered include:

Will either JaQuan Hardy or Brenden Knox make a push for the third running back spot?

Who will fill out the rest of the wide receiver depth chart? And will fifth-round selection Simi Fehoko be one of them?

Along the offensive line, is Ty Nsekhe really the answer at swing tackle. Or will one of the young linemen like Terence Steele or Brandon Knight finally separate themselves?
