If the Dallas Cowboys could bring back their veteran backup quarterback Andy Dalton for another season at the price they got him for in 2020 that would be fantastic. The three-time Pro Bowl passer played admirably in relief of Prescott last year. He led the Cowboys to a 4-5 record in his nine starts last season and managed to throw 14 touchdowns while completing nearly 65 percent of his passes.

Dalton also played his best football for Dallas towards the end of the year. The former Cincinnatti Bengal led the organization to a 3-1 record while tossing seven touchdowns to only two interceptions. However, the 33-year old will likely cost more than the $7 million that he signed for in 2020.

Dalton has played ten seasons in the league and was the Bengals unchallenged starter for most of those years. His career 74-66-2 record as a starter and the fact that there are still several teams’ potentially looking for help at the quarterback position make it unlikely that the Texas native comes back to Dallas next year.

Even if the veteran passer agreed to come back for the same salary in 2021 the Cowboys might not be able to afford him depending on how large of a contract the team gives its starting quarterback Dak Prescott.

The Dallas Cowboys’ would be well served if they could find a way to bring back Dalton on a reasonable deal. However, the team will likely be in a tough situation with the salary cap and there are other, cheaper alternatives to fill the role of backup signal-caller for America’s Team.
