Firing on All Cylinders

I looked forward to writing about this part. The more I write about it, the more excited I get. Well, let’s dive into the Dallas Cowboys offense.

Usually, you would start with the quarterback, but the coaching staff needs more notice. After 10 seasons of being the head coach in Dallas, Jason Garrett is out. He has been replaced by a Super Bowl-winning, offensive-minded coach in Mike McCarthy.

Offensive coordinator Kellen Moore is staying with the team. This was after his first season in his position last season, leading the Cowboys to be the best offense statistically in the NFL.

Now, let’s get to the quarterback. Dak Prescott just finished a season where he threw 30 touchdowns and was 98 yards shy of 5,000 passing yards. He is a two-time Pro Bowler that has improved every aspect of his game since entering the league back in 2016.

For emergency purposes, quarterback Andy Dalton is on the sidelines. He is a starting-caliber quarterback that will help out Dak.

While the quarterback is usually the face of the franchise, the real star is in the group of running backs. Arguably the best back in the league in Ezekiel Elliott has dominated each of the four years he has played. He is backed up by a promising sophomore in Tony Pollard.

There are two 1,000+ yard receivers from the 2019 season on the roster in Michael Gallup and Amari Cooper. Both together are great, but owner Jerry Jones wanted some more power. First-round pick, CeeDee Lamb, joins the team to form the best group of wideouts in the NFL.

Every once in a while, you can see a number four receiver in Maliek Turner step in. Noah Brown and Cedrick Wilson will be called upon if the above names are tired or for situational plays.

Move over to the tight ends, and you will see Blake Jarwin, who will be a great surprise against opposing teams. He has been efficient in his time learning from future Hall of Famer Jason Witten. Behind him are blockers in Blake Bell and Dalton Schultz.

The stardom doesn’t stop at the offensive line. The Cowboys have the best right guard in the NFL in Zack Martin, accompanied by a seven-time Pro Bowler in left tackle Tyron Smith. To top it off, a soon-to-be Pro Bowler in La’el Collins at right tackle.

While Dallas lost a great center in Travis Frederick, Joe Looney is expected to come in and play better than he did in 2018. If not, rookie Tyler Biadasz is on the sidelines waiting for his opportunity.

At left guard, the Cowboys are hoping that Connor Williams will remain healthy after missing eight games the past two seasons. Cam Erving is a multi-position lineman backup that hasn’t found his groove as a starter.

Connor McGovern is awaiting his chance to overtake William’s spot at left guard, after being drafted in the third round of the 2019 NFL draft. Other depth pieces are Mitch Hyatt, Brandon Knight, and Terence Steele. They are looked at as emergency options for the Cowboys.

Dallas has stars all over their offense. They were the best offensive team statistically last season, and have only gotten better. They are going to torture defenses all season long.
