What Now?

The Cowboys have some cap space to work with, and they should use it. Signing Harrison to a cheap one-year deal will give them the best opportunity for success.

While he isn’t much of a force as a pass-rusher, they can have Crawford sub in to pressure the quarterback. That in addition to Lawrence and Griffen coming off the edge.

If the Cowboys opt to go with internal options, it isn’t a bad route. Crawford and Woods can split starting snaps, and the young guns can get a bigger role.

With Gallimore and Hill getting a bigger role in the defense, it will accelerate their development. This will help out the team in the long-term.

I would want to see the duo of Hill and Gallimore to at least eclipse 15 percent of the defensive snaps. They are the future of the franchise, and they deserve an opportunity. Something Hill never got under former defensive coordinator Rod Marinelli.

While McCoy won’t be playing in Dallas for the 2020 season, that doesn’t mean he won’t play for them in the future.  Beat writer for the Dallas Cowboys, Nick Eatman, stated that they want to have him with the team next season if he is healthy.

Having the option to bring McCoy in next season is great. Unfortunately, he isn’t here this season, but I’m sure Jerry and head coach Mike McCarthy would be more than happy for a reunion next season.

If McCoy does end up inking another contract with Dallas, I am going to assume that a similar waiver would be in the contract. It would still be a great deal for both sides.

While the Cowboys will miss the six-time Pro Bowler, they are not in a terrible spot. There are other short-term options out there, and internal options on their roster. Saving $2.5 million with the waiver will help find a replacement.
