A clean bill of health

Last week during his first press conference since the team reconvened for football-related activities, quarterback Dak Prescott offered this nugget to the pool of virtual reporters (via the Dallas Morning News):

"“I think the healthiest team has one of the best shots to win this so we’re going to do the best we can to put ourselves in that small group.”"

While that isn’t exactly Earth-shattering, in 2020, it’s entirely accurate. Teams who may experience missing a key player or two for multiple weeks due to the pandemic could be greatly affected. Obviously, there is also the minefield of actual football injuries that all teams must navigate as well, which as of just yesterday, clipped this team already.

In a freak occurrence on an everyday drill, free-agent addition Gerald McCoy has been lost for the year to a torn quad. While the Cowboys do have waves of interior defenders along the line, it’s still a hurtful situation. The more of these types of things that can be dodged, the better.

If the Dallas Cowboys can avoid injuries or sickness to their core players, that will be complete the trifecta which will result in them playing in a little something called the Super Bowl.
