Dallas Cowboys: 6 final roster cuts that might shock you
Trysten Hill, DT
It’s all but unheard of for a former second-round selection to be given up on after a single season. Yet, it appears defensive tackle Trysten Hill could be a legitimate cut candidate after posting a dud of a rookie season.
Hill’s biggest champion, defensive coordinator Rod Marinelli, made him sign a work ethic contract last April. But, during the season, there were questions about his maturity-level and consistent effort. In the end, the Cowboys’ top selection in 2019 played just seven games and recorded five total tackles.
With Marinelli now coaching in Las Vegas and a new defensive coaching staff installed in Dallas, Hill won’t be able to rely on his draft status to stay on the team. Especially considering the Cowboys just signed free agent defensive tackle Gerald McCoy and Dontari Poe plus used a third-round selection to draft Oklahoma defensive tackle Neville Gallimore.
Throw in the fact Antwaun Woods recently signed his exclusive rights tender, and suddenly the Cowboys’ depth chart is overflowing at Hill’s position.
With an offseason training program derailed by a worldwide pandemic, Hill has missed precious time to develop. It isn’t hard to imagine this new Cowboys staff opting to move on from a potential bust chosen by the previous regime.
