New York Giants

Riley Dixon – Punter, Aldrick Rosas – Kicker, Joe Judge – Head Coach

The Giants do have a better than average punter in Dixson. That’s a nice start. Dixson finished in the top ten in both net punting average (ninth overall netting 42.3 yards per punt) and in punts placing the opposition inside their own 20-yard line (ninth overall with 29). His punts also yielded one of those lowest return yardage rates in the league.

That’s pretty much where the good goes to meet its end. On the flip side, Rosas was one of the league’s most unreliable kickers in 2019. Not only was his 70.6% field goal make percentage qualify him as one of the sixth-worst kickers, but he was also terrible at extra points. Only six kickers missed more than his four missed extra points in 2019.

As for Judge, he is a complete wild card when it comes to coaching. Yes, he does come from the Bill Belichick tree, spending the last eight years in New England. Ironically, that time was all spent as a special teams coach.

Coming from New England into your first head coaching gig is no harbinger for success, however. Guys such as Romeo Crennel (28-55), Josh McDaniels (11-17), Eric Mangini (33-47), and Matt Patricia (9-22-1) have all failed miserably. In fact, only Bill O’Brien has kinda/sorta worked out with a 52-44 regular-season record. Of course, the 2-4 playoff record and semi-comical roster moves that he has made lately overshadow that minimal success.

Ultimately, Judge will be judged on his own accord. Bringing in Garrett as the offensive coordinator might work out or it might doom him quicker than he hopes. Get your popcorn ready!
