Step Up: Xavier Woods, S

The safety position has been questionable for the Cowboys for quite a while now. Former 2017 sixth-round pick Xavier Woods appears to be stepping up to the plate. Now in his third season in the NFL, he continues to improve year over year.

Woods is on pace to have a career-high in combined tackles if he keeps up his current pace. In comparison to last season, he is giving up 3.6 fewer yards per completion, holding quarterbacks to an 11.7 worse passer rating, and he has not yet given up a touchdown.

Although he only has one pass defended so far this season, he did force one fumble and intercept a pass. Woods is also tackling better this year, missing 2.6 percent fewer tackles than last year.

Overall, Xavier Woods has been stepping up his play. Much like Zeke took a step down because of his high expectations, Woods is taking a step up because of low expectations.

I’m not saying he is playing like an All-Pro, but he is certainly improving. If he can defend more passes and keep up his current pace, it will keep the Cowboys defense rolling.
