With the 2019 regular season starting, who on the Dallas Cowboys roster is looking to prove themselves? Here are five players to watch.

Every season, someone in the NFL that is overlooked emerges to have a great season. The Dallas Cowboys are filled with well-known and established stars such as running back Ezekiel Elliott, defensive end DeMarcus Lawrence, right guard Zack Martin and more.

Here are some candidates that may have something to prove:

Jason Witten, TE

Cowboys tight end, Jason Witten, is a 37-year-old that is returning to Dallas after broadcasting for ESPN last season. Unfortunate for him (but fortunate for Cowboys fans) things didn’t go so well.

Witten is returning to Dallas on a one-year $4.25 million contract. The future Hall of Famer is the immediate starter, looking to play as the safety net for the passing game like he was in 2017 when he racked up 560 yards and five touchdowns. Witten is going to be looked at more as a leadership presence and a blocker for the Cowboys.

Site expert for The Landry Hat, Steven Mullenaxelaborated on how he thinks Jason Witten will impact the Cowboys,

“Although there are questions about his impact on the field, no one questions Witten’s leadership and work ethic off it. And it’s in the locker room, film room, and classroom where the veteran could be the most valuable.”

Expecting Witten to come out and make his 12th Pro Bowl is a lot to expect out of the 37-year-old. Most of his impact will be in ways that can’t be shown by stats.
