Dallas Cowboys: 5 players whose stock continues to plummet
Brett Maher, K
The concerns surrounding second-year kicker Brett Maher only continue to intensify as the regular season approaches. After missing a 35-yard field goal attempt against the San Francisco 49es in the Cowboys’ first preseason game, Maher missed his only field goal attempt Saturday night versus the Los Angeles Rams.
Maher missed a 52-yard field goal attempt off the right hash, pushing the ball wide left. Although the conditions are less than favorable at Aloha Stadium with wind gust coming off the nearby Pacific Ocean, 50+ yard field goals are supposed to be the powerful kicker’s specialty. Maher went 6 of 7 for his field goal attempts on or beyond the 50-yard line last season.
Most of the concerns surrounding Maher are from the 40 to 49-yard range, where he made just 7 of his 11 attempts (63.6 percent) in 2018. Through two preseason contests, the former CFL kicker is just 3 of 5 on field-goal attempts.
The Cowboys could look into adding a possible replacement now that training camp has shifted to Frisco, Texas. But the market appears to be sparse, as you’d expect at this point in the year. So Dallas may be forced to stick it out with Maher until a better option comes along.
Those are the five Dallas Cowboys players whose stock we believe is plummeting. But what do you think? Have we been too harsh? Did we forget to mention a player you believe should be on the list? Tell us your thoughts in the comment section below.
