Jason Garrett really delivered a wonderful speech during your retirement, specifically recalling the Y Option play. As the head coach of the Cowboys, Garrett gets a lot of flack from the fans. What’s something fans don’t understand about Garrett as a coach, his leadership and what he means to you as a former player?

JW: I really enjoyed my time with coach. Extremely passionate. Very genuine. With his players, he takes a humble approach. To be able to lead the charge as head football coach for the Dallas Cowboys, that’s something he wakes up and embraces every day.

He’s a good communicator. He has high standards. And he has a wealth of knowledge of the game. He sees it very quickly and he communicates it very well.

That’s what you want. You want your coach to provide prospectives: where we’re going, how we are going to get there. And I think Jason does a good job of that.

Look, it’s a tough league. And I think he understands that it’s a challenge every single time you lace it up and buckle that chin strap. And I think he tries to convey that with his football team.

Certainly having him as my offensive coordinator and the system he put in place and then carried over as the head coach, I’ll cherish that relationship for a long time.

Bonus: Finally, can you tell us about your partnership with Miller Lite where you got the chance to surprise some lucky football fans. (See video below)

JW: Yeah, it was a great experience. I’m a Miller Lite guy. It was a great group of people. And when they offered me the opportunity to surprise a lot of these fans as a delivery man for Miller Lite, you know beer and football go together … it was a great opportunity for me.

It was neat. It’s always great to see your fans. Certainly, to deliver them a nice cold one as they kick off the season, they go hand in hand. The Miller Lite people did a great job with me. I went from being retired and out of a job to kinda having two jobs, working double shifts.

But it was a lot of fun. I really enjoyed it. I think that was what the theme of that was all about. What a great opportunity to surprise these fans and Miller Lite afforded us that opportunity.
