Dallas Cowboys 2018 NFL Draft: 7-round mock 4.0
Round 1 Pick 30: Will Hernandez OG UTEP
Analysis: After trading back in the first round, the Dallas Cowboys opt to strengthen their offensive line, selecting guard Will Hernandez out of UTEP. This offseason the Cowboys have signed offensive tackle Cameron Fleming and guard Marcus Martin, but they opt to go with Hernandez, to give an instant plug in starter at left guard to their offensive line.
Selecting Hernandez will give the Cowboys the ability to keep La’el Collins at right tackle, and have Fleming as their swing tackle, and Martin as a backup guard. Hernandez was a four year starter at UTEP, and will be able to play immediately and make a positive impact. The Cowboys get a day 1 starter in the first round, and also add a 2nd round pick to possibly help them move up in the next round.
TRADE: The Dallas Cowboys trade Pick 62 and Pick 81 to the Miami Dolphins for pick 42.
For the second time in the first two rounds, the Cowboys make a move. After picking up an extra second from Minnesota, the Cowboys get aggressive, and move up into the second round, acquiring pick 42 from the Miami Dolphins.
Round 2 Pick 42: Taven Bryan DL Florida
The Cowboys see Taven Bryan still available early in the second round, and pull the trigger to move up to get the Florida defensive lineman. Dallas has shown lots of interest in Bryan before the draft, and at his Pro Day at Florida, defensive coordinator Rod Marinelli worked him out one on one.
Projected by some as a potential first round pick, the Cowboys can not pass up the opportunity to go up and get Bryan as he falls. Although in some ways he will be a developmental player, Bryan has an extremely high ceiling, and off the charts athletic ability, which could turn him into a dominant force on the defensive line.
