Seven Dallas Cowboys whose stock is on the rise
Chaz Green, Left Guard
The topic of who was going to start at left guard for the Cowboys raged on all offseason, through training camp, the entire preseason and all the way until Week One. And finally, we have an answer.
Chaz Green, the former tackle, has been earmarked as the starter at left guard for the Cowboys, sandwiched between two Pro Bowlers in left tackle Tyron Smith and center Travis Frederick. While every other lineman had their struggles against the Giants stout front seven, Green surprisingly played penalty free.
And the fact you didn’t hear his name called during the game is a good thing. Green and this Cowboys offensive line was able to do just enough to stave off New York’s pricey pass rush while also creating big enough holes for running back Ezekiel Elliott to gain 104 rushing yards in the contest.
In fact, Green’s biggest competition for that starting role at left guard, former first round bust Jonathan Cooper, was actually placed on the inactives list prior to the game as a healthy scratch. Talk about having faith in a player.
Now, the Cowboys have to hope Green can overcome his biggest obstacle, staying healthy.
