#1 – Taco Charlton, DE, University of Michigan

Finally, we get to what seems to be the most desired position for the Cowboys to draft.  Defensive end.  Like the secondary, pass rush has been a major issue for the Cowboys.  In past years, the front office has taken several gambles to address the issue, but none have paid off.

Free agent Benson Mayowa helped last year, as did the emergence of David Irving.  However, the Cowboys still need a number one pass rusher.  Someone who opposing offenses must dedicate two lineman to stop.

Could Taco Charlton be that guy?

The following excerpt comes from NFL.com via an AFC Executive:

"“Really, really talented player. You won’t always see it on every play so that is going to be a coach’s job to get that out of him. Rushers with his size and athleticism are hard to find and they usually go very early in the draft.”"

It currently sounds as though Charlton will be available when the Cowboys pick, and if that is the case, it seems unwise to pass on a rusher with this much potential.

Consider that that Cowboys have perhaps the best coach for milking talent out his defensive lineman in Rod Marinelli, and you’ll see that Charlton could be a home run pick.

Anyway you spin it, the Cowboys have holes.  The best way to fill those holes is through the Draft. Their best chance of finding a premium player comes in the first round.  Hopefully one of these impact players is available at 28, and hopefully the Cowboys pull the trigger.
