X is for “Throw up the X!”

Dez Bryant has a quarter of the number of touchdowns he had at this stage last season. Clearly injury limited his game time, as well as missing the rapport with Romo impacts that week in week out impact he could normally expect.

The thanksgiving game against the Panthers will see a battle of the enigmatic celebrations. Will we be seeing Super Cam or a chance to Throw Up the X?!

Y is for yards

The NFL is a game of yards. How have the Cowboys stacked up against the rest of the NFL this season?

Passing yards: Matt Cassel has thrown the most passing yards for the Cowboys this season with 809 yards compared to Romo’s 778 yards and Weeden’s 738 yards. Romo average of 259 yards per game is the best on the team and ranks 16th among the NFL.

Rushing yards: Questions over who was going to be the lead running back on the Cowboys were answered when Joseph Randle was unceremoniously cut. Darren McFadden hasn’t disappointed. His 623 yards for the season rank 12th in the NFL. That’s 108 more yards than DeMarco Murray.

Receiving yards: With Romo out there wasn’t too much receiving happening in the Cowboys team! Jason Witten has the most receiving yards on the team with 472- 48th in the league. Terrance Williams ranks 53rd with Cole Beasley 78th.

Z is for Zoom

Lance Dunbar‘s season ending injury impacted this team more than what I for one initially thought. Dunbar’s presence on the team was one that was easy to question. He wasn’t a power runner, the blocking demon.

He was a back utilized out of the slot in a receiving role. While his option as a receiver was relatively easy to replace, that consistent speed he bought to the team wasn’t.

Terrance Williams isn’t fast. Cole Beasley is elusive but doesn’t have that north south boost. Darren McFadden has that explosiveness in bursts when required. But without Dez and Dunbar the Cowboys looked slow.

If a running back or wide receiver is an option in the draft next year, let’s make it a quick one. Someone with some zoom factor.
