D is for depth

At the start of the season you might have felt you knew where things were at with the Dallas Cowboys depth chart. Most fans would’ve been relatively happy across the board. A defensive back would’ve been the choice of many and a defensive tackle featured in many an argument. But oh my, how quickly can injury turn a roster.

Of quarterbacks and wide receivers, Darren McFadden and Tony Romo are the only two who began the year on the roster. The others have all been injured (Lance Dunbar) or cut (Brandon Weeden, Joseph Randle).

There’s been players who have come and gone in between, most notably Christine Michael. The former Seahawk wasn’t given many opportunities on the field in games, and questions were raised regarding his ability to pick up the playbook.

The Cowboys go into Week 11 against the Dolphins with DMC backed up by the unknown quantities of Rod Smith and Trey Williams. Maybe one of those late round draft picks could’ve been thrown at a running back after all.

E is for end zone

It isn’t surprising to know that the Cowboys statistically are performing far worse than last season. No more so than when it comes to putting up points. They currently rank 24th in the league with their 48% conversion rate of touchdowns when in the redzone. Last year they finished 2nd in the league scoring a touchdown on 64.91% of their trips into the redzone.

Without Romo the attempts to score are far lower, again the team ranks 24th in redzone scoring attempts versus 13th last season.

In 2015 only the San Francisco 49ers have scored fewer points than Dallas’ 166. With kicker Dan Bailey scoring 70 of those it shows just how anaemic the offense has been.

F is for fight

At 2-7 the season feels as good as over. Yet the NFC East being as bonkers as it is means there’s still some hope that the Cowboys can somehow claw their wait out of this losing streak and into playoff contention. Can they finish the fight this time?
