Analysis: This could be a huge area of need for the Cowboys next offseason. Every one of their linebackers have been struggling with injuries and/or inconsistency all year. At this point, no one should expect Sean Lee to play an entire season, ever. Rolando McClain is on a one-year contract and could be done in Dallas at season’s end. And Anthony Hitchens has been good at times, and bad at others.
This Cowboys linebacker core needs a stabilizing force. Von Miller could be that force in free agency. But his signing would come at a premium cost. Therefore, Dallas would likely turn to the draft to solve this need. And UCLA’s Myles Jack, Notre Dame’s Jaylon Smith, Alabama’s Reggie Ragland could be the answer.
If the Cowboys are looking to replace McClain in the middle, Smith and Ragland make the most sense. But talent-wise, Jack could be the top linebacker taken in this draft. All three are viable options in the top ten.
