Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo has been dabbling in the golf game again this offseason and attempted to qualify for the US Open. Again, Romo’s efforts have fallen short and he will have to wait another year — or hopefully ’til he’s done playing football — to try again.

Why did Romo fail on his bid for the latest US Open? He shot 9 over at a local qualifying event at Stonebridge Ranch Country Club in McKinney, Texas.

Romo had only one birdie to go with five bogies, a double bogie and the dreaded triple-bogey.

Now that his qualifying bid is over, we can get back to what is important — football. Here’s some sound advice for our quarterback: Keep your day job.

Dallas Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo is no stranger to scrutiny, when it comes to his focus and priorities. Whether it be his off-the-field romances or his trips to Cabo, the gunslinger has had his fair share of critics. Is Tony Romo 100% focused on being a top-level quarterback or is the former undrafted free-agent just happy to be on a NFL roster?

All of these questions have been raised again this offseason with Romo attempting to qualify for the US Open. Fortunately, Romo’s golf game needs a little work and he did not advance, but that doesn’t take away from the question of if he is focused.

Head coach Jason Garrett seems to believe that is not the case. In an interview with Pro Football Talk Live, Garrett says Romo’s golfing has never been a distraction.

“I know since I’ve been around the NFL, players love to play golf, and they love to play golf in the offseason,” Garrett said on PFT Live. “It’s really a way for them to kind of get away from what they’re doing at the facility, with the workouts or with the practice they’re involved in. So it’s always been a relief for a lot of guys at a lot of different positions.

“Tony just so happens to be pretty good at it. He gets a lot of attention for it, but we probably have some guys on our team that play a lot more golf than Tony does.”

Tony Romo may have had a disappointing season with the Dallas Cowboys this past year, but that didn’t stop him from adding a championship trophy to his case. Romo, along with Mark Walker, won the Adams Golf Pro-Scratch Championship at TPC Craig Ranch in McKinney, Texas.

Romo and Walker shot a 62, 5 strokes better than the rest of the field.

This is the second time in three years that Romo and Walker came out on top. Philip Bleakney and Greg Boots finished in second.
