Jerry Jones is screwing over quarterback Tony Romo.

Every day. Ever since Romo came on the scene, wrapped up in an unexpected package, Jerry has been jumping up and down like a little kid on Christmas. But the biggest joke of all is this: the gift of Tony Romo wasn’t for Jerry Jones to open.

Yet the general manager — also known as “Dumbo Tron” — keeps pushing unnecessary business upon his quarterback.

So Tony Romo is being asked to run the team like Denver Broncos QB Peyton Manning? Like a Hall of Famer? Get this straight: Tony Romo is being asked to emulate a legend of the game? A Super Bowl winner and MVP?

Dec 2, 2012; Arlington, TX, USA; Dallas Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo (9) scrambles against the Philadelphia Eagles at Cowboys Stadium.
Hilarious. Absolutely hilarious, Jerry. Thumbs up. I just want to stand up and give you one of those, 2013 NFL Draft high fives.

Dude, back off. Seriously.

I like me some Tony Romo. I really do. I admit it. I like the fact that he is staying put. Brother has unfinished business in Texas.

But come on, let’s get real here. Tony Romo has not proved worthy of emulating Hall of Fame quarterbacks of this modern-day game. Not yet. Let’s close the door on that right now until he actually bursts down the door with some bling on his hand. Or at the very least, some playoff wins.

So Dumbo Tron, and his son, mini Dumbo Tron, must leave Tony Romo alone in his element. He’s got enough on his plate. Don’t overfeed something that can’t take anything else down. Duh. What’s one to do instead?

I’ll tell you: You go back to the essentials. Winning NFL teams are anchored by their offensive line.

2012 NFC Champions The San Francisco 49ers had three first round offensive linemen protecting the quarterback. Three? Yes, three. Makes you want to cry. I know — when I heard this I wanted to burst into tears like a little girl.

That’s what it takes to win games. The cliché that a winning team starts with the interior linemen is, well, true. Jerry, sir, you put the responsibility on the big men — the heart of the team; the gods who protect your multi-million dollar investment.

You want to steal The Patriot’s two tight-end system and waste a precious second round pick? On yet another tight end? Stop man. Because your QB isn’t going to be busy looking for catchers; he will busy laying on the turf getting a tan.

Drop emulation. Start with the core and work your way out. And drafting offensive lineman Travis Frederick in the first round does not constitute as a patch. In fact, this pick only assaults the team. And it makes you look dumb.

Well, more dumb.

Dec 30, 2012; Landover, MD, USA; Washington Redskins linebacker London Fletcher (59) sacks Dallas Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo (9) during the second half at FedEX Field. The Redskins won 28 – 18. Mandatory Credit: Brad Mills-USA Today Sports

Travis Frederick is not first round talent. Yes, he was taken in the first round, and will assume the stage and responsibility as a first rounder. Poor guy. He’s already set up for failure.

Sure, Frederick may show up Sundays with signs of great gifts. Let’s hope so. But even if he does turn out well, this will come about as surprise charity, not as an expectation.

We expect first round starting left tackle Tyron Smith to be great. He had to be. So far, so good. He’s proving to be worthy of a first round draft pick because dear friends, he is, in fact, a first round player!

Mr. Jones, you want to steal blueprints from other teams? Steal from your own closet. Steal from your friend and former head coach Jimmy Johnson. Johnson died for an offensive line. He mounted his mouth where the trenches were. And with a strong line, you run the ball until the other team cries.

Bruise them. Punish them. And when their sorrows could be heard from upstairs, own the sky by the hand of Tony Romo.

Start with the offensive line. Die by it. Surround your most precious possession with protection. That’s a necessity. That should be your luxury. All other picks are complimentary.

Jerry Jones is setting up Tony Romo for failure. Instead of surrounding Romo with needs, Jones has given The Cowboys quarterback the responsibility of running around the field playing tag, with his head chopped off (once again).

Critics may light fires. Fans might file for divorce.

And because of this, Tony Romo will not be remembered as a god. Tony Romo will be more of a monster.

I almost tossed my coffee mug at the television screen this morning. I’m glad I didn’t; because the more I thought about it, the more I realized general manager Jerry Jones wasn’t worth a drip of my java.

Warning: This article has no intention to ruin your day — so do click on.

This morning I flipped the channel to NFL Network only to see the dork himself speak. Wonderful. A great way to start the week.

We all know something is wrong with Jerry Jones (besides Jerry Jones). I’m convinced the guy loves himself more than himself. (Is that even possible?) We can call it the “Terrell Owens Syndrome.” As Jones massaged the audience with calculated words, he attempted to justify the Dallas Cowboys 2013 Draft selections.

Sep 23, 2012; Arlington, TX, USA; Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones on the field prior to the game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers at Cowboys Stadium. Mandatory Credit: Matthew Emmons-USA TODAY Sports

Not going to happen Jerry.

While he spoke, I noticed something: Jerry Jones strategically kept his Super Bowl ring close to his face. It was as if he was playfully reflecting light from the ring into the camera.

Look at me people. I got the jewelry. I’m a winner; I’ve done this before.

Yeah, nearly two decades ago.

Let’s be clear here: The rock on his finger was not of his doing. His friend and coach, with the awesome hair, deserves that credit.

But you can’t tell Mr. Jones that. He won’t hear it. No matter the fact that the ring is decades too old. It’s irrelevant now.

Look, we’re glad you’re stuck in the 90′s Jerry. Cowboy fans would love nothing more than for you to be physically stuck there. But guess what? Fans aren’t. Coaches aren’t. Players aren’t.

So stop tweeting everyone pictures of that ring. If anything, Jerry Jones should strip himself of any jewelry. It might do him so good. Because every single time he looks at his hand, his ego hits reset.

And then here we go again, back around and around on the merry-go-round. Running a straight line in the opposite direction is change. Going in circles is not. But hey, look down at your hand and remind yourself it’s all possible.

Word on the street is that during the draft, Jerry Jones told his staff it’s time to come in with the new and out with the old. What a bunch of bologna. So picking a tight end with the second round pick is new? Oh, because nobody on staff has tried that before. Absolutely correct there sir.

Sorry? What’s that? Former Cowboy tight ends Anthony Fasano and Martellus Bennett, both second round picks, are calling. Whoops. Yeah, let’s go ahead and try to compliment starting tight end Jason Witten with some help. Because he sure needs it, Jerry.

It’s not like help is needed on the offensive line. Or Safety. Or Free Safety. Or a replacement for Doug Free.

You know what I would do with a second round pick? I’d pick a new general manager.

Am I the only one who is baffled here?

But maybe that’s the irony here — we are the fools. We are foolish to believe change was coming; that a revived ray of hope was at the horizon. When we wake from our dream state, we realize the fact that nothing has changed. And when nothing changes, expect the worse — another .500 season.

Super. I can’t wait. Hail to the thief. Jerry, you’ve succeed at stealing and crushing hearts. Hail to the thief. High fives all around.

I really had some hope for this draft. It was a chance to open a new window for some clean air. The Cowboys were in position to fill needs. But those weren’t filled correctly. Rather, the only thing filled (again) was a man’s ego. The dude updates his rhetoric, his swag, his staff, but fails to refresh the 1990′s blueprint. Help. Somebody.

Sorry? What’s that? I got to go friends. The Al Davis camp is on the line. Stay tuned. I’m going to find out how one becomes an idiot.

Don’t put your hand the air. You’re not going to get a high five in return.

Tom Landry would not be happy with the Dallas Cowboys today.

I don’t recall watching a live game with Tom Landry on the sidelines. I wish I could remember, but I can’t. I was too young (If you are wondering, I am 30 years old). When I look back at old videos with the old Cowboys, I see something different. Something is missing in today’s Cowboys. Somewhere along the years, we lost more than just a winning tradition.

The Dallas Cowboys have lost their identity; it was an image that branded the team and organized them into one of the most popular teams in the NFL. America’s Team, they said. All thanks to a man who walked the sidelines — with swag — wearing that funny looking hat.

When I imagine Coach Landry, I think of quiet coaching, tactful planning, and football innovation. For 29 years he roamed the sidelines. And it wasn’t all winning years either. The Cowboys didn’t have a winning record until their seventh season in the league. In Coach Landry’s first six seasons, he posted a 25-53 record.

Yes, it’s hard to believe: The Cowboys were once losers.

The ghost of Tom Landry haunts The Dallas Cowboys to this day. If you look closely, in the shadows, you may see him. He’s there, standing, learning, and coaching. But when he scopes the present Cowboy organization, he is deeply humbled.

This isn’t the same team he once built. This isn’t the stadium he saw rise from nothing to something. Today, Landry’s philosophy of sportsmanship and class is now murdered by a man who fixes fires by throwing paper money into it.

If you could see Tom Landry today, he might have tears in his eyes. The man loved The Cowboys. Deeply. He still does, somewhere or wherever he is. I’m sure of it. And because of this, he wouldn’t give up on the team he helped mold.

I can see The Coach roaming the sidelines. Though current players can’t hear or see his haunts, The Coach doesn’t give up — quitting is not an option. He continues to coach; he continues to glue the team. He tries to fix plays. Future schemes are planned. He calls on the coaching staff for new formations. He goes back to his desk quietly only to ruminate on new medicine for the team — his team.

I can see him whispering into Romo’s ear, asking him for better and to learn for the better. I see him burning The Cowboys of the 90′s in a barrel of flames. The man is wired to start over and begin anew. He is not afraid. He is not afraid of starting out as a loser. Because he knows that anything worth something, starts from nothing.
