Tomorrow afternoon’s game in Arlington, Texas is going to be a battle of two of the NFL’s worst rushing attacks. The Detroit Lions rank third to last in rushing offense, while the Cowboys come in with the second worst attack. However, the Lions will receive a much needed boost when running back Jahvid Best takes the field for the start.

On the season, Best has made his impact felt when he was not fighting through injuries. His 40 receiving yards per game comes in at second in the league among running backs — San Francisco 49ers tailback Frank Gore is ranked first. Best has received high praise for his play, most notably from his head coach.

“He’s not even close to his potential,” Lions coach Jim Schwartz said.

The Dallas defense needs to strap up and make it a rough outing for Best in order for Dallas to earn the win on Sunday. If we learned anything from the new coaches early on, it is that they want to install a new, physical mentality in the team. Playing dominating defense and controlling the trenches would be a brilliant way to start.

It could have started some controversy whenever defensive end Igor Olshansky said that the Cowboys offense needs to stop turning the ball over and start running the ball more. However, due to the severe truth of the statement, no one’s feathers were ruffled and players agreed over the matter.

Starting offensive guard Leonard Davis publicly came out and agreed with Olshansky.

“Shoot, I agreed with that way back,” Davis said. “It is what it is. I can’t get mad at him for saying that. Maybe I probably wouldn’t have said it all like that, been on the radio saying that, but I guess that’s just him.”

“But it’s the truth. It’s the truth. I agree with him. We’ve turned the ball over, we haven’t run the ball well, we’ve had a lot of penalties. I mean, it’s all the obvious things. For him to say that, just that statement, I mean, I agree with it.”

It is refreshing to see players coming out and publicly acknowledging the dreadful play calling that has been haunting the team. The Cowboys have perhaps the best trio of running backs in the league with Marion Barber, Felix Jones, and Tashard Choice. Do they utilize them? No. Jason Garrett is too enamored with the passing attack.

Hopefully these words will resonate throughout the locker room and force a renewed focus on the running attack.

It would only be the team’s second win of the year, but even worse . . . it would be their first home win of the season.

Dallas should look to get their running game on track against Jacksonville’s 25th ranked rush defense. Jon Kitna will be making the start in place of the injured Tony Romo, and he will need all the help he can get.

If the running game gets rolling, passing lanes will really open up for Kitna, who steps in to the fourth-ranked passing offense. To make things better for Kitna, Jacksonville also allows 253-yards-per-game through the air.

Everything is in Dallas’ favor in this game, so they have to capitalize.

One could argue that the Jaguars are the easiest team the Cowboys have faced this far in 2010 and they need the win for any hope of turning around the season.
