ESPN radio was spreading rumors this week that the Cincinnati Bengals and Dallas Cowboys may work a trade for unhappy wide receiver Chad Johnson. Who is the magic player? No other than our safety, Roy Williams.

I don’t know what the ramifications are for such a deal, because Williams’ contract for the Cowboys is killing the salary cap. But there is no doubt the Bengals may be interested in the Pro Bowl Safety. And if the Bengals are able to obtain a Pro Bowler for Chad Johnson, I think they’d pull the trigger, instead of trying to take draft picks.

I’ve avoided the Johnson crap all week because he has been doing this all year. He’s been on radio shows ever since the season ended talking about how he wants out. We’ve heard he could land in Dallas, Washington, Philadelphia, and just about every team that is in need of a high-profile wide receiver. But there hasn’t been a smidgen of evidence that the Bengals have even tried to trade him.

If the Cowboys were really going to trade Williams, it leaves a huge hole in the secondary, one that is already looking like swiss cheese. No matter how questionable his play is, he is still likely to play better than any rookie we bring in to start.
