Chalk this up to good news/bad news.  Tony Romo requested the latest possible tee time for the qualifying round for the HP Byron Nelson Championship.  This request was granted and Romo is scheduled to tee off at 9:57a.m.  The problem is that there is an organized team activity (OTA) which is scheduled at the same time.  Barring a long rain delay, it is unlikely Romo will be able to qualify and subsequently participate in the PGA tournament.

While this is certainly disappointing for Romo and the fans who would love to see him play in PGA event, this decision reinforces his commitment to football.  Romo has received criticism over the years for not having a singular focus on the professional sport.  Romo receives undue criticism in this regard as he is a high profile player and his exploits and hobbies are more heavily covered (on a national level) than other semi-anonymous players (Orton, Hasselbeck, Campbell, Ryan, etc.).

It is expected to rain Sunday night, but it will clear up with a ZERO percent chance of rain until Monday at 9p.m.  Despite not being able to qualify (barring an act of god) for the HP Byron Nelson Championship, Romo will attempt to qualify for the US Open by participating in the local qualifier on Thursday at the Honors Golf Club in Carrollton, TX.

While Romo’s golfing prowess is impressive (as seen first hand), it is unfathomable that he would ever be competitive at a professional level.  Nonetheless, Romo has our best wishes on and off the field/links.
