Matt Mosley has an interesting story here that talks about how the Dallas Cowboys’ locker room is no longer fodder for the press. Terrell Owens is gone. Pacman Jones is gone. Tank Johnson is gone. Greg Ellis is gone.

When Tony Romo and Owens had their press conferences, more than 50 reporters would stack the room to hear what controversy they could light up from their words. Now, more reporters are showing up for Orlando Scandrick’s press conference instead of Romo’s. That’s because Scandrick and former first rounder Mike Jenkins are battling it out for the starting cornerback spot opposite of Terence Newman.

There just aren’t anymore loud mouths in the locker room. No one is stirring the pot.

Wide receiver Miles Austin gave a very positive summary of the turnaround:

“It’s sort of nice not to have our names in the papers for all that stuff right now,” Austin said. “I don’t know about all the other locker rooms because I’m only in this one. But this locker room has a much different feel right now. I think guys are all about football, and that’s a good thing.”

But Mosley goes on to point out that there is turmoil in the locker rooms of the Cowboys NFC East enemies. For example, in Philadelphia, the most insecure quarterback in the NFL is already complaining about Michael Vick upsetting the roll of the offense.

In Washington, the head coach and the quarterback are both on the hot seat. Colt Brennan is on the IR and the Redskins will play the season with just two quarterbacks: Jason Campbell, who hasn’t proved himself capable of being a formidable starting quarterback, and Todd Collins. Ouch.

In New York, defensive end Osi Umenyiora disappeared from practice and provides a wealth of evidence that he and new defensive coordinator Bill Sheridan are not going to be best friends.

But it’s all quiet in Big D. And it hasn’t been like that for years.

I was interviewed this week by the NFL Outsiders over at MVN. You can read the interview here.

Apparently, some of their roundtable guys believe the Dallas Cowboys had one of the better offseasons. Well, it depends on how they measured it. We ridded the team of Terrell Owens and Pacman Jones, and we picked up a safety and added a decent, but old, linebacker from the Atlanta Falcons and a younger guy from the Chargers.

I am not really sure that supports the title as “offseason winners” because some would think dropping a top-10 receiver in the game is idiotic, even if some say he is a cancer.

I was also recently interviewed by ESPN magazine’s senior writer Eddie Matz, but I am unsure how they plan to use the information I provided. Matz centered on the Terrell Owens saga, and asked how I think the Cowboys will do this coming season. He also challenged me on who Cowboys fans “hate” right now and if the coaching staff should have been canned.

I told him that I think a lot of fans were angry with Jason Witten because he was accused of being the locker room leaker. I personally am not upset with Witten, but I know there were fans who were. I also said that I think making Wade Phillips the defensive coordinator was a smart move, if Jerry Jones plans to keep him on staff. I said if anyone should have been let go, it was Jason Garrett. I said that the Cowboys offense was predictable: run, pass, pass; and that Garrett did not change the play calling enough. I also said that if the Cowboys do well this coming season, it will be because of a strong defense, not an incredible offense. The offense will be serviceable, but the defense should be a powerhouse.

As expected, ESPN is blowing up the Adam Jones incident without really knowing what happened. What irks me from the start is that ESPN acts like it is their story, when CBS-11 broke it, and I was the first to send it out to the blogosphere.

No one knows what really happened, but it might not matter. If Adam Jones is suspended, the Dallas Cowboys are forced to rely on two rookie cornerbacks, Mike Jenkins and Orlando Scandrick, to carry them through the season.

I say that because it appears Terence Newman might need surgery on his pulled groin. The situation is not that serious because neither Pacman Jones nor Terence Newman have performed lights-out football so far this year. But it certainly thins out the secondary. Evan Oglesby anyone?

All of this is hypothetical, but if you listen to ESPN, you could be led to conclude that Pacman Jones’ NFL career is over and the Dallas Cowboys are in a world of hurtin’. But it is very important to note that ESPN hasn’t really been right in ages.
