Steven Mullenax, Editor & Head Writer: On paper, the Eagles are a better team than the Cowboys. The Eagles are 3rd in the NFL in offense. And their defense ranks 10th. (Dallas ranks 6th and 13th respectively) But when these two teams match-up, throw these numbers out of the ole’ prediction pot because emotion is what seems to rule these games. I think this is a classic “trap” game for the Eagles. They are riding high off two straight wins (against the Dolphins and Jets) and they might just be starting to buy into the “dream team” hype. But Philly hasn’t won more than two games in a row all season and they have losses to the lowly Cardinals, Seahawks and Bills under their belts.  The Cowboys will be looking for revenge after being humiliated by Philly in Week 8 and the Boys are coming off a stellar win against the Buccaneers. In a game determined by emotion, the home team has the crowd…and the edge. Cowboys win, 34-24.

How much does he regret starting the Dream Team hype?

This is certainly not a ‘must-win’ game, but it is nonetheless an extremely important contest that will likely have playoff ramifications down the road. The Cowboys need to continue the 1-game winning streak, get on a roll, and prove that last week’s excellence was more than just playing a terrible team.  If the Cowboys can manage a win in Philly, it could very well end the Eagles chances of making the playoffs.  It is very unlikely that they could recover from a 2-5 record.  If the Eagles were eliminated from playoff contention, that would essentially leave just the Giants as serious competitors in the division (I think that Washington is in the beginning stages of a long downward spiral). Moreover, division wins are important because they are used to determine the Division Champion if two teams have the same record (this often leads to a bye and/or a playing a game at home).

Elam was the Cowboys' biggest addition.

For all intents and purposes, the Cowboys are done with free agency.  Due to a difficult cap situation, the team wasn’t particularly active.  The Nnamdi situation aside, the ‘Boys took a cautious approach that has many questioning the owner’s fiscal health.  However, they did quietly address their needs.  In the end, they added or kept three defensive ends, two safeties, a guard, and a tackle, among others.  While it would’ve been nice to see them make some impact additions, there weren’t a lot of smart moves to be made.

As a general rule, free agents were grossly overpaid during this free agency period.  Roman Harper and Stephen Bowen each received $30 million dollar contracts.  Not that there is anything wrong with either Harper or Bowen, but they aren’t $30 million dollar players.  And, the fact that they did get those deals, indicates an overvalued market.  Hell, the Bucs gave $19 million to a punter.  That is not a wise use of money.
