Matthew Emmons/US Presswire

Even though the Dallas Cowboys have been working out twice a week at an undisclosed location, the players are not getting the full effects and benefits of a team organized workout. Without official gatherings, the players are missing out on preparation and NFL coaches are concerned about what the 2011 NFL product will look like on the field.

Philadelphia Eagles head coach Andy Reid didn’t hold back when voicing his concerns. ”The further it goes in [to preparation], the worse the product,” Eagles coach Andy Reid said. “No matter how you cut this thing, you need time in practice. You’re bringing in guys who are working hard in the offseason on their own, but that’s not like working hard in training camp [in concert with other players].”

Cowboys coach Jason Garrett doesn’t voice as big of a concern. In fact, Garrett seems to be taking everything in stride. He’s taking time at Valley Ranch watching film and looking over his roster.

“Certainly we have an offseason in place because it’s a good thing to help our players and teams get ready for the season,” said Garrett. “So when you’re taking that away, it starts to fiddle with that preparation. Now how much of it gets taken away and how big of an impact that will be, nobody really knows. Again, we have to figure out what the situation is, when some decisions are made and have to adjust accordingly.”

We will have to see how the lack of organized offseason activities effect the on-field product in 2011, but you one would have to believe that there will be a drop off in the level of play. By the time the playoffs would eventually start, the players would likely be back into the swing of things and the level of play would be top notched. However, we may have to suffer through a few rough weeks of play.

According to a report on ESPN Dallas, the players are currently individually working out while trying to organize a big group workout in the upcoming months.

“There’s always certain ways you can take on the lockout,” said DeMarcus Ware. “I just go along with what I need to do — work out and keep my teammates ready and just get ready for the season. It’s all we can do. We’re ready to play and ready to get things going.”

Dez Bryant is a frequent visitor to 24 Hour Fitness in Cedar Hill and Michael Johnson Performance Center in McKinney, Athletes Performance in Frisco and at Southlake Carroll High School are others named as facilities players are attending for workouts.
