I just wanted to start off by saying that this letter is in no way to bash or belittle you.  I’ve heard many a hate-fueled diatribe about your general level of purported asshattery, and I want to go on the record as saying I am not one of those fans.  It is very clear that your business acumen is second to none and I truly marvel at your ability to brand the Cowboys as America’s Team, even during the dismal days of the early 2000’s.

In this day in age, the top free agent in any market inevitably receives an exorbitant contract and very few actually return an appropriate amount of value to the team that is paying them. Ask the Redskins how Albert Haynesworth's deal has worked out. It's not that Asomugha wouldn't be a big help to the Cowboys, it's just that his contract would be an enormous cap burden for years to come and will limit the organization's flexibility.

]]> Yesterday, on the Sports Guy’s outstanding new site, Grantland, Bill Barnwell broke down the types of free agents that teams should avoid.  Like most things written for Grantland, it is definitely worth the read.  This year, we probably won’t have to worry about the Cowboys taking big free agent risks.  With their cap situation and the need to re-sign several players, they probably won’t be able to make too much of a splash in free agency.  Still, you can’t put anything past Jerry.

Let’s suspend reality for a second and pretend that the Cowboys will actually have a chance to sign some big name free agents.  There are a lot of guys out there that can really help this team, but there are some that they would be better off to avoid.  Here are my top three free agents that the Cowboys should stay away from: (more…)

With their first two picks in the 2010 NFL draft, the Giants continue to add to the deepest part of their team.  Rumors suggest that Osi Umenyiora may be traded, but adding Jason Pierre-Paul and Linval Joseph to a roster that has Mathias Kiwanuka, Justin Tuck, Chris Canty, Rocky Bernard, and Jay Alford — well, it seems as though they are planning on running a 6-2 defense next year.  Safeties be damned.
