The Dallas Cowboys coaching staff has turned to Cory Procter as the starter for injured left guard Kyle Kosier.

I thought they would turn to Joe Berger, or even Montrae Holland, the veteran the Cowboys picked up last week.

But Procter gets the call. You can read a report here.

Procter is more of a utility lineman, while Berger plays right guard. Oddly, head coach Wade Phillips said he thought Procter was a better bit because Berger is more of a right guard.

“I felt the other guys did well, but Cory seemed like the best fit,” Phillips said. “He did well also, at guard and center. He’s played there before and we have a lot of confidence in him.”

Phillips is expecting Holland to help in a few weeks.

“He’s a bigger guy,” Phillips said. “Procter I think is a good player and I think he’ll do well for us, but Holland’s a little more of an anchor – a bigger guy, he’s 325 (pounds), and pretty strong guy. And that’s why we got him, we think he can help us.”

Is it just me or has the NFC East been damaged the most with pre-season injuries?

Osi Umenyiora is gone for the year and that leaves a huge hole on the Giants defense that already lost four players from the Super Bowl winning team. It didn’t take a genius to come to the idea that the Giants would be begging for Michael Strahan’s return. Brett Favre’s return certainly makes it easier for Strahan to flip flop in his retirement.

When the Giants called Strahan’s agent, they found out he was in Greece on vacation. Yeah….Vacationing in Greece to playing football for the Giants at age 36?? Hmmm.

The Giants had a bunch of surprising talent last year, most if it coming out in its injured secondary. But the loss of Umenyiora may be too much, and I am not sure an aged defensive end who was set on sipping Margaritas is going to make a huge difference for this team.

And speaking of injuries……..
