It’s no secret the lockout-shortened, 2011 NFL off-season severely cramped the progress of all 32 teams. Attempting to squeeze an appropriate slate of critical off-season activities into just over 40 days was next to impossible. Time deficiencies costed each organization valuable windows for player improvement and scheme implementation.

Not to mention, from a health standpoint, the volume of players suffering from leg cramps and hamstring injuries during the first month of regular season games seemed much higher than recent years. While all teams were negatively affected by the condensed off-season last year, the Cowboys were one of the teams these constraints pinched the hardest. (more…)

This is not to be confused with the Jets and Lions game, where they MacGruber’d their way into two losses. The Miami game was not a “trap game” after the 1st 7 games, but coming off a 3-game win streak, the Dolphins forgot about their record and went into this game thinking they were undefeated. They played us hard, and I find it hard to believe that Jason Garrett would have allowed his team to take these Dolphins lightly.

The Cowboys were ready to play, but the Dolphins were a better team than their record indicated. Before I get into my weekly post, and offer up some words for success for key players, coaches, and personnel, I want to point out the benefit of playing in these tight games. Jason Garrett preached at the beginning of the season about how more often than not, in the NFL, a game is decided by less than a touchdown (7 points, with PAT). This Cowboys team is starting to come together because of these tough, emotional wins. In Jason Garrett’s post game speech to his team, the players were chanting “OFFENSE! DEFENSE! SPECIAL TEAMS!” and Jason affirmed that chant. In the NFL it’s about all three phases, and this is getting it done. Someone call Dr. Scholls, because this team is gellin’. (more…)

As the Dallas Cowboys prepare to play the Seattle Seahawks this Sunday, the phrase “must-win” is being used an awful lot. I think the Cowboys do need to win this game, not because of their record or the number of games they trail the division leader, but because Seattle is not a very good team: if you can not defeat below average teams at home, you have no business going to the playoffs. In addition, the offense needs to play well if they want to convince anyone that last week’s impotency was a fluke.

As I mentioned in my preview of the defense, I watched the Seahawks vs Bengals game as preparation for this week. I haven’t watched a Seahawks game since the last time they played the Cowboys, so all of my observations are based on that one game.

Click on the link to read my observations about the Seattle defense.
