After being up by 24 points early in the 3rd quarter, the Dallas Cowboys lose to the Detroit Lions in a shocker on Sunday, 34-30. The Lions scored 17 unanswered points in the 4th quarter to pull out the miracle win. For the Cowboys, it is the greatest lead ever lost by any Dallas team in franchise history.

The Lions started the game with a 19 yard run by RB Jahvid Best. But the Dallas defense made their presence felt early when safety Gerald Sensabaugh intercepted the Lion’s QB Matthew Stafford on a pass intended for WR Calvin Johnson.

As the Dallas offense took over, they started with a nice screen play to TE Martellus Bennett for a big gain. That lead to a 25 yard touchdown pass from QB Tony Romo to WR Dez Bryant along the right sideline. Bryant used his height advantage and simply reached out to grab the ball without much interference from the smaller DB. Dallas took the early lead, 7-0. (more…)

Since our network has a site for every NFL team, I’d thought I’d get an insider’s take on the upcoming Dallas Cowboys vs. Detroit Lions Sunday match-up from behind enemy lines.

Therefore, I present five questions with the Editor of The SideLion Report, Zac Snyder:

1. Are the Matthew Stafford injury concerns behind him?

ZS – I could say yes only to see him go down against the Cowboys or say no only to have him play all 16 games this year. The truth is that we won’t really know until we see it but there isn’t any reason to believe he can’t stay healthy at this point. The coaches, doctors and Stafford himself all expect a healthy year. There aren’t any underlying issues that would prevent him from staying healthy. The offensive line kept him pretty clean through two games but he was sacked five times last week so he has taken some hits already. (more…)

Tomorrow afternoon’s game in Arlington, Texas is going to be a battle of two of the NFL’s worst rushing attacks. The Detroit Lions rank third to last in rushing offense, while the Cowboys come in with the second worst attack. However, the Lions will receive a much needed boost when running back Jahvid Best takes the field for the start.

On the season, Best has made his impact felt when he was not fighting through injuries. His 40 receiving yards per game comes in at second in the league among running backs — San Francisco 49ers tailback Frank Gore is ranked first. Best has received high praise for his play, most notably from his head coach.

“He’s not even close to his potential,” Lions coach Jim Schwartz said.

The Dallas defense needs to strap up and make it a rough outing for Best in order for Dallas to earn the win on Sunday. If we learned anything from the new coaches early on, it is that they want to install a new, physical mentality in the team. Playing dominating defense and controlling the trenches would be a brilliant way to start.
