There is little doubt that the Cowboys will enter the 2011-12 NFL season without Wade Phillips as the head coach — thankfully. With Jason Garrett struggling lately as a coordinator, he is likely out of the picture as guys to take over for Phillips next season.

You always hear names like Bill Cowher, Jon Gruden, and John Fox popping up as potential candidates for the Cowboys future head coach vacancy. They are all viable options, but ESPN’s Adam Schefter shed some light on a few NFL assistant head coaches to watch for.

“The first name that comes to mind is Leslie Frazier with the Vikings. He’ll get his chance soon enough. So will Chargers defensive coordinator Ron Rivera and Giants defensive coordinator Perry Fewell. Rob Ryan of the Browns is making some noise this year, and his brother Rex’s success has to help him. And I’m a fan of Patriots linebackers coach Matt Patricia, though he probably will have to serve as a coordinator first,” said Schefter in an ESPN chat.

Any one of those guys would be welcomed on the Dallas sidelines. This team needs a coach who will light a fire under them and a guy who can finally get the team motivated. My favorite assistants on this list are Leslie Frazier and Rob Ryan. I’d jump with joy if any of those two were fitted with a Cowboys hat for next season.
