Every game there are standout players and those who are deserving of a special honor. NFL teams will often give out game balls in the locker room following the game to acknowledge the players who had spectacular performances throughout the game.

After today’s game, I came up with two players I deem worry of receiving game balls. Who earned the right to be called a game ball winner for Week 11?

In yet another impressive move by interim coach Jason Garrett, the Dallas Cowboys have brought the recognition of “Game Balls” and “Atta Boys” back to Valley Ranch. Former head coach Wade Phillips would announce the winners of game balls at the post-game press conferences during his first year as head coach, but as ESPN Dallas stated, “it was quickly dismissed as high schoolish to talk about who played well especially after a loss.”

Now Jason Garrett has brought the awards back, but instead of announcing the winners at a press conference there is a big sign outside of the locker room. This week’s game balls were awarded to three players and one coach — Jon Kitna, Bryan McCann, Mat McBriar, and defensive coordinator Paul Pasqualoni.

The “Atta Boy” recipients were: Miles Austin, Alan Ball, Dez Bryant, Felix Jones, Stephen Bowen, Gerald Sensabaugh, Orlando Scandrick, Andre Gurode and Bradie James. The Special Teams Atta Boy is Sean Lee and the Scout Team Player of the Week is Manuel Johnson.

It’s great to see players and coaches once again being given credit for their good performances. One has to appreciate the way things are turning around in Dallas in the Jason Garrett era.
