There is little doubt that the Cowboys will enter the 2011-12 NFL season without Wade Phillips as the head coach — thankfully. With Jason Garrett struggling lately as a coordinator, he is likely out of the picture as guys to take over for Phillips next season.

You always hear names like Bill Cowher, Jon Gruden, and John Fox popping up as potential candidates for the Cowboys future head coach vacancy. They are all viable options, but ESPN’s Adam Schefter shed some light on a few NFL assistant head coaches to watch for.

“The first name that comes to mind is Leslie Frazier with the Vikings. He’ll get his chance soon enough. So will Chargers defensive coordinator Ron Rivera and Giants defensive coordinator Perry Fewell. Rob Ryan of the Browns is making some noise this year, and his brother Rex’s success has to help him. And I’m a fan of Patriots linebackers coach Matt Patricia, though he probably will have to serve as a coordinator first,” said Schefter in an ESPN chat.

Any one of those guys would be welcomed on the Dallas sidelines. This team needs a coach who will light a fire under them and a guy who can finally get the team motivated. My favorite assistants on this list are Leslie Frazier and Rob Ryan. I’d jump with joy if any of those two were fitted with a Cowboys hat for next season.

If the Dallas Cowboys lose to the Tampa Bay Bucs and then head to New York to play the Giants for a loss, the Cowboys will be 4-5 and under .500 for the first time in 40 games. I am not the only one who thinks that would spell the doom of head coach Wade Phillips even though Jerry Jones said he’d finish the season. Here is someone who agrees with me.

In other words, The Cowboys have to win ONE of the next two games if Phillips wants to keep his job. That’s a matter of fact.

Dear Bill Cowher,

Jerry Jones want to talk to you. Maybe I am just speculating, and a better statement may have been that Jerry Jones ought to be talking to you about taking the reigns of the Dallas Cowboys.

I am not sure what Jones’ plans are for the highest-paid coordinator in the NFL, Jason Garrett, but he might have to go to so the Cowboys can pay you the most money for a coach in the NFL.

Wade Phillips should be fired. Yes, I know the Cowboys are 4-2 an both losses were very close games, but so have all but one of the wins. The Dallas Cowboys are not a mentally strong game. Unfortunately, it is unlikely Jones will fire Wade Phillips in midseason, unless the team goes on a long losing streak. However, it is pretty clear the Cowboys won’t be going far in the playoffs baring some miracle turnaround, so the Cowboys would like to hear from you.

Are you interested in coaching a team with a quarterback who can throw for 300 yards and two touchdowns and still look awful. This is a team with the NFL’s sack leader, but one of the worst secondaries in the league. This is a team with a huge offensive line who plays pretty small at times.

Are you interested, Bill?

Sincerely

The Landry Hat
