And with prized future stars like Standford’s QB Andrew Luck and Oklahoma State’s WR Justin Blackmon hanging in the balance, draft order is prominent in the minds of teams who are not in the playoffs.

For the Dallas Cowboys, the draft gives the team a chance to fill the holes in their offensive line and defensive secondary. Both areas struggled mightily this year and it is expected that these positions will get the most attention early on in the draft.

As the draft is drawing closer, multiple teams have called the Dallas Cowboys about trading the No. 9 overall pick, according to owner Jerry Jones.

“I’ve already had the opportunity to discuss and been approach by two separate clubs,” Jones said. “And not just a general, ‘Would you take who?’ Would you be interested because they know, you wouldn’t be doing your job if you wouldn’t interested in looking at any opportunity you might have regarding a draft pick or a trade.

“But what I am and do feel good about is the quality of the players down through that ninth [and] tenth draft position,” Jones said. “It certainly enhances the value of that ninth pick because of not only are we gonna have a player that I think will make a difference for us now, we really have the opportunity to move down and are going to have that opportunity, there’s no doubt in my mind about it.”

Moving back in the draft would allow the Cowboys to focus on their offensive line needs and get more value for the pick. The draft is also deep at pass rusher and Dallas could be focusing on that need. If the team stays put at pick 9, Nebraska cornerback Prince Amukamara seems to be the likely selection.

If Dallas really is getting calls for the pick, they need to jump at the opportunity to move it. Picking up extra picks and moving into the middle of round one will allow them to fill more needs and pick up a stud tackle, which is the biggest area of concern.
