ESPN posted a picture two days ago that showcased rapper/actor Ice Cube and his picks for his personal MT. Rushmore of athletes. In order to increase interaction they polled the Facebook community to see who they would carve into stone if they were given the chance to have their own athlete MT Rushmore. Since I’m gullible and answer any sports question ESPN posts on Facebook, I replied with my own version. As I tried to figure out the exact four athletes I would carve into the side of a mountain, I came to realize the majority of the people I would put up there would be Cowboys. So instead of having to pick four players from different sports, I want to share with you the four most influential Dallas Cowboys of my generation.

Daryl “Moose” Johnston, a Buffalo native, was honored there today, and after he received his accolades, he proceeded to slam his former team. Sure, he’s not Jimmy Johnson, who has been hammering the Cowboys all year, and recently called them “sloppy” but the Moose makes a claim that the Cowboys are pretty, pretty bad without Tony Romo.

OK…he won’t get a ton of argument with that out of me, but you can read this article to get a full understanding of what he said.

“That’s a team that has more issues that were brought to the forefront when Tony went out of the lineup,” Johnston said.

He also alludes to the Cowboys lacking chemistry, saying that the group of guys he played with “went beyond teammates,” which was critical to winning. Many of those same teammates were scooping up ho-dogs, smoking pot, partying all night, drinking copious amounts of alcohol, cheating on their wives, and snorting coke, too, according to Jeff Pearlman’s book “Boys Will Be Boys.” Go figure. I guess they all came clean to play on Sundays and Mondays.

There’s no doubt that the Cowboys have some problems that they need to fix if they are going to make a run for the playoffs in December. Winning the Tampa Bay game, no matter how close, was a step in the right direction considering the injuries the Cowboys are dealing with, and will continue to deal with for at least a few more weeks.

The New York Giants can take this team as lightly as it wants. One thing we learned is that the defense can play inspired football for four quarters. Sure, the holes in the secondary need to be fixed, but the good news is they can be fixed with the right amount of attention. Take the Cowboys lightly, Giants. Do them a favor.
