Well, this weekend was no fun for us dreamers. The Arizona Cardinals appear to be in contention for Peyton Manning, which would certainly give yet another NFC team the upper hand in a contest against our Boys. It appears (at THIS instant) that Manning is leaning towards signing with Denver but we won’t truly know until Manning himself speaks. But for Cowboys fans, even news like that seems small potatoes compared to the Washington Redskins gaining the right to draft either Andrew Luck or (most likely) Robert Griffin III. The Redskins, to be sure, gave up the farm to draft RGIII. They swapped 1st rounders this season with the Rams (a difference of 4 spots) and gave up a 2013 first rounder, 2014 first rounder and a 2nd rounder from 2012 (presumably). That’s essentially 3 cornerstone picks of a franchise for one player. If Griffin is everything Washington expects him to be, then the traded draft picks are well worth it. If not, this is a collosal disaster that will surely sully Dan Synder’s reputation further.

The truth, my fellow fans, is that this trade is both of those things. I believe Robert Griffin III will be a phenomenal player. He is likely to be the face of their franchise for the next decade or so. I also believe that it will not matter. Just like the Double J and his Dallas Cowboys, Dan Synder and the Washington Redskins have a laughable draft history in the past decade. There is nothing to suggest that this is going to change in the time RGIII will play for them. Just like Dallas, the Redskins are still fighting an up-MOUNTAIN battle with their owner in place and are not likely to do much of anything until the two men secede power. (more…)
