Rob Ryan's defense really stepped up on Sunday

If you’re like me, you’ve been waiting for Week One since January 3^rd. Watching Stephen McGee lead the team to a Week 17 victory might have prevented us from getting a higher draft pick (anyone want to argue with Tyron Smith being a great addition to the offensive line, though?), but I just love beating the Eagles, especially in Philadelphia, and it doesn’t even matter if we’re going up against Vick’s backup’s backup.

While I am a huge fan of football in general (I do watch every game of the playoffs and play fantasy football every year), I’m sure I can speak for many of you when I say there’s just nothing like watching our Cowboys play their hearts out. Nothing compares to watching the silver and blue take the field.

Being from New Jersey, it’s hard for me to see too many games in person (granted, the team will be in the Garden State twice this year which will be a great treat) but I do all I can to make the Cowboys’ presence known in my home on game day: I wear my #82 jersey with matching hat and shoes, play some of the official music of the Dallas Cowboys during pre-game, and allow no distractions at all from kickoff until I can see 00:00 left in the 4^th quarter. With the Cowboy’s season kicking off tonight, I can’t help but reminisce about my childhood and the days of watching the games with my father. I lived in a Cowboy’s household. My father lived and breathed with every Cowboy win and loss. Now, later in life, he doesn’t take things as seriously. But back then, on game-days my father’s mood could easily be determined by whether or not the Cowboys won or lost. With a win, you were guaranteed laughter and smiles.  With a loss however, you were better off just playing outside or up in your room. It was just better to avoid the foul mood that a Cowboy’s loss would instill into my dear old dad.

I am not sure I know anyone who takes the games so seriously these days. I don’t know if that is from exposure, free agency causing constant team turnover or perhaps even the popularity of fantasy football. That isn’t to say that people aren’t excited – one look at my Facebook and Twitter feed tells me otherwise. I just wonder if fans care a little less about their teams than those from 25 years ago. People tend to move on quicker, just watch the next game or get prepared for the following week. (more…)

How will Nagy and the rest of the Offensive line hold up against the Jets?

Good day fellow Cowboy fans! There have been so many changes to the team this off-season (6 offensive starters are no longer with us and we have a new defensive coordinator), I am not sure what to expect.  Hence, I am eagerly anticipating the upcoming game against the Jets. The following is a list of things, in no specific order, I will be paying attention to in the Jets game:

1.  How will the offensive line hold up?

I am not so concerned with individual players losing one on one battles; that happens to even the best players and will surely happen occasionally to the 3 newbies (assuming that  Smith, Nagy, and Costa/Kowalski play).  I am more interested in the communication between the linemen and the way the group performs as a unit.  (more…)
