]]> In the span of one afternoon, the Dallas Cowboys lost a playoff birth, a division championship, and a little bit of pride.  However, there is the smallest amount of solace disheartened Cowboys fans can take from the loss.  Rather than playing a first place schedule in 2012, the Cowboys will now play a third place schedule.  The Philadelphia Eagles also finished 8-8 and owned the tie breaker over the Cowboys due to sweeping the regular season series with the ‘boys.

In 2012, the Cowboys will play 6 division games against the NFC East (Redskins, Eagles, & Giants).  They will also play the NFC South (Falcons, Saints, Buccaneers, & Panthers) and AFC North (Bengals, Ravens, Steelers, & Browns) as will the remainder of the NFC East.  The schedule is a bit more forgiving to the Cowboys as they will play the respective 3rd place teams from the NFC West (Seahawks) and NFC North (Bears). The Cowboys open their schedule in New York for a Sunday Night Football game against the Jets. Dallas plays the Dolphins on Thanksgiving day and faces off against the rival Eagles on Christmas Eve. Dallas’ regular season finale is against the New York Giants.

The Cowboys bye week falls on week 5 and the team has five primetime games scheduled.

Rex and Rob Ryan will not have to wait for their sibling rivalry to hit the field. It is being reported by Manish Mehta of the New York Daily News that the Cowboys will travel to New York to face the Jets to kickoff Sunday Night Football in Week 1.

The first Sunday of the season falls on September 11th and will be the 10th anniversary of the tragic attacks on the United States.

More information on the Cowboys schedule will be released as we get closer to the 7pm ET NFL schedule launch, so stay tuned.
