Written by theMBIIIeffect

According to ESPN’s resident Twitter busybody Adam Schefter, the Washington Redskins have scheduled a visit with former Chiefs and Bengals running back Larry Johnson.

Cowboys fans should be salivating at this move because he hasn’t played a full season since the 2006 season. Since that year, when he racked up 1,789 yards and 17 touchdowns, he’s found the end zone a grand total of nine times.

But the best part about the possibility of Johnson joining the Skins is that he’s a ticking time bomb in the locker room. If Terrell Owens is a locker room cancer, then Johnson would be the Ebola virus. Remember him bashing his coaches on Twitter?

But if you picture that bad attitude and add it to the cast the Redskins currently have, the result is disastrous. Imagine Johnson butting heads with fellow running back/jackass Clinton Portis. Imagine him stealing a hot dog from Albert Haynesworth. We can only hope for this kind of self-destructive lunacy on the Redskins’ sidelines.

We’ll have to wait and see. The Redskins have been strangely diligent in this free agency, so Cowboys fans are overdue for a good laugher like years past.

All week long the press and the Washington Redskins organization worked hard to make everyone believe that running back Clinton Portis was not going to play against the Dallas Cowboys. The game was at FedEx Field, in front of 90,000-plus white-flag waiving fans (actually, it was probably 75 percent Redskins fans and 25 percent Cowboys fans).

I read as many articles on the game today as I could, and one particular caught my eyes. The writer explains how Portis was the last one to exit the tunnel. Out he came, with the crowd roaring, carrying an American flag. He flew out of the tunnel like a bat out of hell, no signs that he had a strained MCL in his knee that was supposed to keep him sidelined for the game. Heck, it kept him sidelines for the entire week of practice.

On Tuesday of the week, he was 50/50. On Thursday, he was basically inactive, still not practicing, and every Redskins writer basically ensuring that Portis was out for this game. Then, all of the sudden, Portis looks ‘great’ in the pre-game warmups. He’s spinning and twisting and running and jumping. Oh my golly. It was a miracle. Clinton Portis is healed! He’s well again! His knee is fine.

The crowd roars when they see him leaving the tunnel. He is actually going to play, they thought. And on the first drive of the game, he ran for 26 yards, helping the Redskins get an early 7-0 lead. After that, the Cowboys defense kept what looked like a very healthy Clinton Portis in check, and they didn’t see Cowboys territory for the rest of the game.

I am positive the Redskins were a bit dishonest about the condition of Portis. And it is unfortunate the press did very little to shine some truth onto the matter. All we hear is how tough Portis is, how much heart he has, and how much strength he has to play that game.

But really, all it boils down to is a big hoax from one of the biggest jesters in the NFL. Nice one, Redskins. It backfired.

I caught this today, and if you missed it, you can download the podcast here, but Washington Redskins running back Clinton Portis lost his cool on ESPN Radio’s John Thompson Show.

Former Redskins and Eagle Brian Mitchell gives Portis some beef for being out of shape, a jerk and an overall idiot.

Portis is furious, and says he is in as good of shape as anyone on the team. Mitchell stands his ground. Their fight lasted through most of the 23-minute interview. Portis calls Mitchell a hater right off the bat.

“I am not hating. I respect you but there are a lot of things you do that I don’t like.”

“Every time I say something negative, I say something positive. But I’m not going to be one of those people running around kissing your butt,” Mitchell tells the overrated running back.

The interview is worth a listen, as the two fight it out.

“I guarantee you I am one of the top conditioned players on this team, and you can ask coach,” Portis says.

Mitchell replies:

“I don’t need to ask coach. I see you after one nine yard run running to the sidelines breathing.”

Portis just talks trash for five minutes, and doesn’t let Mitchell get a word in. When Mitchell finally does get to talk, Portis jumps in and argues with him.

“Keep talking, you keep talking. It’s all good. It’s all good,” Mitchell says.

“If you can’t handle the negative [Portis interupts], I talk abotu football and I would advise you to keep it about football. Listen to me. I would be truly happy if you lead the Washington Redskins. I would be the first man to praise you but don’t think you can come on this air and talk trash to me like i am going to back down. I talk about football, bro.”

The problem is, I can barely understand the blabber Portis is saying. He’s so angry and out of control on the air, that he makes very little sense.

“I am going to get my whipping stick out in a minute,” legendary Hoyas coach John Thompson says as the two continue to battle.
