The Washington Redskins have seemingly made the conscious decision to tank the remainder of the season sending to the bench their best offensive weapon and their most dominant defensive player. Seemingly they are doing this in order to improve their draft position and will undoubtedly draft a quarterback.

The Dallas Cowboys, on the other hand, are playing to win these final three games against the aforementioned Redskins, the Arizona Cardinals, and the Philadelphia Eagles. At 4-9, the Cowboys have been mathematically eliminated from the playoffs. The question is, whether it would be better go finish strong or go out with a whimper. Here is a breakdown of the advantages for both.

Another Man’s Treasure: Bengals Edition

I don’t often pay too much attention to other teams, especially the bottom of their roster. When Sean Payton became the head coach of the New Orleans Saints, he brought along several mid-level players. Terrance Copper, Billy Cundiff, Scott Fujita, Scott Shanle, and Rob Pettiti. Understandably, Payton had a familiarity with the players and their work ethic and he preferred to dance with the devil he knew. Fast forward a few years and Bill Parcells accepted the top role with the Dolphins. Tony Sparano and Jeff Ireland headline the Dallas departures along with Anthony Fasano, Lousaka Polite, and Jason Ferguson. You would not build a team around the players that left Dallas, but it is within reason that Parcells would bring in players with a solid work ethic and who would set the tone in the locker room for Coach Sparano.

Finally we reach the Bengals. They have the Cowboys former defensive coordinator, Mike Zimmer. They also have Roy Williams (safety), Antonio Bryant, Tank Johnson, Adam Jones, and Terrell Owens. The Bengals even contacted the Cowboys during the 2009 season to initiate a trade for Martellus Bennett. The Bengals are like homeless people waiting in the alley for the bakery to throw away rolls and bagels. While I have concerns about Flozell Adams finding work for the 2010 season, I’m beginning to think that his agent simply hasn’t contacted the Bengals. Owens signed a one year contract, so my guess is that the Bengals are biding their time while quietly eying the potential release of Roy Williams (wide receiver).

I’m not sure if there is a rhyme or reason as to why the Cowboys castoffs gravitate to Cincinnati, but I have mixed feelings about picking them to finish last in the AFC North. I want the Bengals to put the Steelers in their place (preferably last), and yet every identified player left the Cowboys with some feeling of good riddance. Personally, I’d like to see Quincy Carter back in the league. If Cincinnati is a refuge for former Cowboys, I believe he would be well suited to holding a clipboard.

Another Blog Says Jason Witten Is No. 1 Tight End

Hey, I don’t make this stuff up. Another blogger is saying that Dallas Cowboys tight end Jason Witten is the best in the NFL. You can see the post here.

Remember this post and all of the whining that came from the minority Anti-Cowboys bloc? Of course, the biggest cries came from the weak Chiefs fans. Well, it should be noted that their loverboy, Tony Gonzalez, ranked SIXTH. Yes, that is the number 6.

There are reasons why so many bloggers and writers are saying that Jason Witten is the top tight end in the game. It doesn’t take a genius to realize he has skills in almost every facet of the game. It’s laughable that anyone would even try to argue he is not a top tight end, like the Chiefs fans tried to do earlier.
