Think about it. It would be so much easier being a San Francisco 49ers fan. Maybe even a Miami Dolphins fan or Arizona Cardinals or any NFL team that is mainly a QB away from a Superbowl or (at least) a serious run at a Superbowl.

Sep 26, 2011; Arlington, TX, USA; Dallas Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo (9) celebrates with linebacker DeMarcus Ware (94) in the fourth quarter against the Washington Redskins at Cowboys Stadium.
When all you’re really missing is a great quarterback, at least you know what you have. You know whats missing and therefore you have something tangible to look forward to or hold on to. It gives fans not just a reason to have faith, but a clear reason to keep the faith.

Now, I’m aware that the Superbowl was played yesterday – begrudging kudos, by the way, to MVP Eli Manning and the NY Giants on their 21-17 victory over Tom Brady and the Patriots – but the fans of those teams are experiencing the fruits of their faith in their teams. I’m a Dallas Cowboys fan. I’m still waiting, so my fandom is lumped in with all the other teams that are ‘missing pieces‘ away from that Superbowl appearance and that’s what this article is about. (more…)

‘…after I watched Alex Smith’s play against the New Orleans Saints, I might be done laughing. It’s like the Wizard of Oz (in this case, Head Coach Jim Harbaugh) gave the Cowardly Lion (yes, Alex Smith) the courage he’d been missing the last 6 years. A first round QB with confidence and courage befitting the first over all pick and a hard hitting (they punctured Romo’s lung) aggressive Defense and we better all watch out for Alex Smith and the San Francisco 49ers!’

Boy, was I wrong! - Not about the 49ers D, but the same old Alex Smith came back with a vengeance! In the Giants case, I was right about what happens when a team gets on a roll. Much to my annoyance, Eli Manning (not Alex Smith) played.. well.. with courage and confidence befitting the first over all pick. Now the insult to injury of watching Eli play in his second Superbowl before Tony Romo plays in one.

Now that I got that out of the way, I can talk about the Cowboys again. (more…)

( Leave it to me to find a Cowboys angle in all that )

Anyway, I did glean some perspective watching the playoffs this weekend. Some relate to the Dallas Cowboys, some not so much:

-First, Tim Tebow is and will continue to be a force to be reckoned with – that being said, he still can’t hit the side of a barn and his release (or should I say ‘wind up’) is slower than a slow-pitch soft ball pitcher. (more…)
