The latest FanSided 2013 NFL Mock Draft of the year has been released.

The folks over at FanSided.com will be releasing weekly mock drafts right up until the big day in April. While it may seem a little early for mocks, what’s next is always on the mind of die-hard Dallas Cowboy fans.

The draft boards are sure to change a lot over the coming weeks so it will be fun to track all the players the Cowboys take in these mocks.

Let’s get to it.

With the 18th pick in the 2013 NFL Draft, the Dallas Cowboys select:

Dec 1, 2012; Atlanta, GA, USA; Georgia Bulldogs defensive lineman John Jenkins (6) reacts after a sack against Alabama Crimson Tide quarterback A.J. McCarron (10) during the second quarter in the 2012 SEC Championship game at the Georgia Dome. Mandatory Credit: Dale Zanine-USA TODAY Sports

John Jenkins – DT/Georgia

Rob Ryan loves his defense and he loves drafting potential defensive stars. Like Ryan, Jenkins is huge, he’s mean and he’s really good at what he does for a living. He’s almost impossible to block one-on-one and when he draws double teams and is rendered ineffective, he opens lanes for linebackers to fill in and stuff the run or rush the passer. Another option here could be Chance Warmack or even Jesse Williams, but Jenkins is going to see his stock rise significantly as the draft nears.

This is a duplicate pick from an earlier version of FanSided’s mock draft. Therefore, here is the previous versions breakdown of Jenkins:

Recent events have made the Cowboys’ defensive tackle position a possible top priority in next year’s NFL Draft or NFL Free Agency. All Pro defensive tackle Jay Ratliff signed a seven-year, $48.625 million contract with Dallas last year. But the cap-stricken Cowboys could save a million dollars by cutting the 31 year old veteran this off-season. And if reports about his feud with owner and general manager Jerry Jones are true, Ratliff could be well on his way out the door.

Ratliff’s back-up, Josh Brent, was involved in a tragic car accident earlier this month that took the life of fellow teammate and Dallas practice squad member Jerry Brown Jr. Brent was charged with intoxicated manslaughter and is currently out on bail. Brent’s future with the Cowboys appears all but over as he is facing up to twenty years in prison, if convicted. That leaves Dallas with Sean Lissemore, Robert Callaway, and Ben Bass to fill the position.

Now, on the pick.

The 6’3, 358lb Jenkins was a JUCO transfer to Georgia University that was recently selected to the All-SEC second team as both the coaches and media selection. He was also listed on ESPN analyst Todd McShay’s Top Five Prospects in College Football earlier this season. Jenkin’s recorded 50 tackles, 15 quarterback pressures and one fumble recovery during his senior season. But a more telling fact about his potential could be that Jenkins is the fourth defensive tackle taken in the projected first round of FanSided’s Mock NFL Draft.

FanSided NFL Spin Zone’s own Josh Sanchez has the following to say about the Georgia nose tackle: “Jenkins is a force in the interior line and always makes his pressure felt. As an added bonus with Jenkins, you can’t teach size.”

So this week, the pick is once again Jenkins. What do you guys think?

The folks over at FanSided.com will be releasing weekly mock drafts right up until the big day in April. While it may seem a little early for mocks, for fans of teams like the Cowboys that are one game away from being ousted from the playoffs, it is really all we have.

The draft boards are sure to change a lot over the coming weeks so it will be fun to track all the players the Cowboys take in these mocks.

Let’s get to it.

With the 17th pick in the 2013 NFL Draft, the Dallas Cowboys select:

Oct 27, 2012; Tuscaloosa, AL, USA; Alabama Crimson Tide offensive lineman Chance Warmack (65) lines up to block during the game against the Mississippi State Bulldogs at Bryant Denny Stadium. Mandatory Credit: Marvin Gentry-USA TODAY Sports

Chance Warmack, Guard, Alabama

Every year it seems that we talk about the Cowboys needing to add talent along the offensive line and this year they have an opportunity to take one of the top offensive guard prospects to come around since Steve Hutchinson. If Warmack were a tackle, he would garner consideration with the first-overall pick. Since he is a guard, he will fall in the draft a la David Castro last season, despite being a top ten talent. This would be a home run pick for Dallas.

I agree the Cowboys have needs on the offensive line, but I’m not sure they are so ready to give up on their two free agent signings from earlier this year in Nate Livings and Mackenzy Bernadeau. A more pressing need could be Right Tackle as the departure of the over-priced and under-performing Doug Free should be just over the horizon.

Now, on the pick.

Warmack is a 6’3, 329 lb interior Guard that ESPN ranks as the third best and SCOUTS INC. ranks as the fourth best player in the entire 2013 Draft class. He’s one of, if not , the top offensive lineman in all of college football. Getting a lineman of his caliber at #17 would be a steal.

Although offensive line is not a sexy pick, I think most Cowboy fans would be satisfied to land him. The Cowboys Front Office should also combine this pick with a couple strong veteran lineman pick-ups in free agency to sure up the young o-line.

Obviously, what Dallas decides to with their own free agents will effect their draft decisions tremendously. Linebacker Anthony Spencer, running back Felix Jones and corner Mike Jenkins will all be free agents after this season. 32 year old Quarterback Tony Romo will also be in the final year of his contract. Who the Cowboys decide to re-sign, and who they let go may be the biggest deciding factor concerning who they draft in the first round next year.

So right now the pick is Warmack. What do you guys think?

Once again the riverboat gambler is grinning at the card table, itching to go all-in on a high risk maneuver if he can just get the chance. There is no doubt Dallas Cowboys Owner/GM Jerry Jones watched the 2012 NFL Combine workouts like a wide-eyed boy at Christmas, hoping to discover the next imposing physical specimen to lay claim as his new prize possession. As usual he desperately seeks his next set of lotto ticket numbers to play. Enter Dontari Poe and his eye-popping combine results, a massive 6’4, 346 pounds mountain of a man who can bench press Buicks and run like he has helium in his bulging belly.

It might have sounded a little something like this in Indianapolis…”Come on Stevie, quit watching DeCastro again, even the waterboy over there knows he’s a lock. Mark down that Dontario Poe fella’s numbers and let’s get to the nearest 7-11 pronto. What, his name is Dontari not Dontario? Well nobody ever heard of him before today so what’s the big deal? Stop goofin’ off watchin’ these other guys and tell Jr. to pull the dang car around. I wanna be the first GM to fill out my new play card with Poe’s numbers”. (more…)
