Most Cowboys fans will never forget the night of January 6 th 2007, when then rookie QB Tony Romo made a major miscue that will forever live in Dallas Cowboy playoff history. All Tony Romo had to do was put the ball down and let Martin Gramatica make an easy FG kick — just 19 yards, even closer than an extra point. That’s where it all slipped away from the Dallas Cowboys. Unbelievably the inexperienced Romo bobbled the ball on a perfect snap and the field-goal try with 1:19 left led to a scramble that ended 2 yards shy of the end zone and a yard short of a first down, preserving a 21-20 victory for the Seattle Seahawks in one of the wildest NFL wild-card games ever.

Nov 6, 2011; Arlington, TX, USA; Dallas Cowboys rkicker Dan Bailey (5) kicks a second quarter field goal with a hold from quarterback Tony Romo (9) against the Seattle Seahawks at Cowboys Stadium.
Much has changed since that dark night in Seattle for the Cowboys. Soon to be Hall Of Fame Head Coach Bill Parcells decided to retire following that difficult playoff loss, and his young Cowboys team of 2007 is now a bunch of seasoned veterans looking for one last chance at a SuperBowl run before the team that Parcells built window slams shut. Romo and the Cowboys did indeed take a huge step forward last week when they finally got some revenge for another tough January loss to Eil Manning and the SuperBowl Champion NY Giants, but oddly enough this game will have even more significance for Romo. It is his first trip back to Seattle since that 2007 Playoff game, a convincing win would spring board Romo on his way to a MVP season and that much needed elusive SuperBowl victory.

This may turn out to become the most important game for the Cowboys this season because their under-rated QB will gain even more confidence and swagger with a victory. Look for Tony Romo to shine and take advantage of a weak Seahawks secondary with 4 TD passes and over 350 yards passing, and the Cowboys to continue their early 2012 roll to the tune of 38-13. You can mark it down now Cowboy fans, I guarantee that this time Tony Romo and his Dallas Cowboys team-mates will return home to Arlington Texas without being Sleepless in Seattle.

Yesterday, due to a lack of anything substantive to discuss, the NFL network turned to a well that never runs dry — bashing Tony Romo. I suppose it began innocently enough with Kurt Warner — the only one in this that’s worth listening to by the way — saying that he felt Tony was a top ten quarterback in the league. He added that he believes Tony has the ability to win a Super Bowl. Naturally, many writers and talking heads were quick to counter with the same generic arguments we hear about Romo every year. He’s not vocal enough. He can’t win in the playoffs. He doesn’t take care of the football. Frankly, it’s all a bunch of hogwash. (more…)
