Well, Dallas Cowboys fans, Stephen A. Smith is back and as obnoxious as ever. The well-known Cowboys hater is back doing his loud, rambunxious, and opinionated show “First Take.” For a few weeks, things were a bit quiet on ESPN because Smith was out due to a pretty serious shoulder surgery.

He made his return as unpalatable as ever. The show opened with some of the worst acting I’ve ever seen from “journalist” (quotation marks due to his questionable journalistic integrity) Adam Schefter.

The NFL insider fakes a news break saying “it’s not the news that Dallas Cowboys fans wanted to hear… Stephen A. Smith is back!” I’d have to argue there are people outside of Cowboys Nation that didn’t miss Smith all that much, but maybe that’s just me.

We then see the broadcaster sitting on a boat in New York with a highlighter orange suit jacket and tie welcoming himself back to television.

It may only be the preseason, but that didn’t stop the ESPN personality from getting back to his favorite past-time of talking crap about the Cowboys. With Michael Irvin sitting across from him, Smith was asked if it was too early for Dallas fans to panic. Here was his answer:

"“Hell no, it ain’t! I was watching them last night and it’s just hilarious to me… Let’s keep this in mind ladies and gentlemen. They were league leaders… What were their penalties last year?! 140 something? (Michael Irvin correct him and said 127). 127. My bad. My bad.I promised you all last season. I said ‘just wait. Be patient. Don’t get caught up in the fact they look good right now in the regular season when games don’t really count. They’re going to blow it come playoff time.’ They had 127 penalties in the regular season. They get to the playoffs against the San Francisco 49ers. Pornstar Jimmy Garapolo in the house. And what happened? The Dallas Cowboys committed 14 penalties. So after all of that offseason of people complaining about Mike McCarthy… after all these questions right? And you start off the football season with 17 penalties. You can’t make it up.It’s August 15th. I was right last year. I was right the last 26 years. I’m going to be right this year… they are who we know they are.”"

Welcome back, Stephen! Is he wrong about the penalties? Absolutely not. It was unacceptable for the team to have a continued lack of discipline, starters or not. Are we excited to listen to an entire season of Smith yelling and complaining? Also, absolutely not.

Let’s hope the ‘Boys can prove this wild man wrong.
