Hall of Fame running back Eric Dickerson says Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott reminds him of so much of Warren Moon.

Since wowing the sporting world last season, Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott has deservingly received many accolades. The rookie passer led the Cowboys to a 13-3 record last season, somehow dethroning long-time veteran quarterback Tony Romo in the process.

The reigning NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year, Prescott was truly one of the most surprising sports stories of last season. And his rise to glory in Dallas is already at legendary status. Somehow lasting until the fourth round of the 2016 NFL Draft, many still wonder how teams, coaches and scouts all missed Prescott’s undeniable talent.

One NFL Hall of Famer, former Los Angeles Rams running back Eric Dickerson, says he knew Prescott was the “real deal” after the Cowboys’ third regular season game. In fact, Dickerson says Dak reminded him of another Hall of Famer following his very first preseason outing.

"“I saw Dak play in the preseason when they played the Rams the first preseason game. And I was impressed in that game. I said ‘Who is this kid?’ He reminded me so much of Warren Moon then,” Dickerson told the panel on a recent episode of FS1’s Speak For Yourself. “So, when Tony Romo got hurt…by the third week I said ‘He the real deal.’ I just felt he was the real deal. I think he can handle the pressure.”"

The comparison of Prescott and Moon is an interesting one. But their rookie seasons in the NFL could not be further apart. Prescott posted one of the greatest seasons by a first-year passer in league history in 2016. Dak threw for 3,667 yards, 23 touchdowns and only four interceptions with a 104.9 passer rating.

Moon, who played six seasons in the CFL prior to joining Houston Oilers in 1984, passed for 3,336 yards for 12 touchdowns and 14 interceptions with a passer rating of 76.9 in his rookie season in the NFL.

But Dickerson is undoubtedly comparing Prescott to Moon’s stature (6’3″, 221 pounds), his abilities and the qualities he demonstrated over an amazing 17-year Hall of Fame career. One that included a whopping nine Pro Bowl nominations. Moon was known for having a powerful arm and being the centerpiece of the Oilers’ run and shoot offense.

But Moon never posted a completion percentage higher than 64.7 in his entire NFL career. That likely had a lot to do with the fact he was forced to throw the ball so much. In Prescott’s rookie season, he recorded a 67.8 completion percentage, the fourth highest in the league last year.

Although being compared to a Hall of Fame quarterback like Warren Moon is always a compliment, Dak Prescott is simply a different style of player altogether. And he is certainly hoping to accomplish the one thing that eluded Moon his entire career…a Super Bowl victory.
