Do the Dallas Cowboys need an attitude adjustment?

It’s no secret that the Dallas Cowboys have struggled over the past couple of weeks and that struggle has resulted in two losses.

It looks as if that trend might continue in Week 5 when the New England Patriots come to town and take on a injury plagued Cowboys team.

Fortunately for the Cowboys, they are getting some key players back from suspensions and those reinforcements might be able to inject a much-needed spark into a Cowboys team that has looked somewhat lethargic over the past two weeks.

It may just be me, but America’s Team is missing something in their play and I think it has to do with their attitude. I’m not saying that they have a poor attitude or anything like that. I think with the players that have been lost due to injury the rest of the team is looking for a leader to step up and provide that extra bit of inspiration to help everyone raise the level of their play.

Look at the players that are not found on the field with their teammates and you might understand what I’m trying to get at.

During the off-season perhaps the Cowboys best defensive player in 2014 was lost for the year when cornerback Orlando Scandrick went down with a right knee injury. Scandrick’s loss due to injury has affected the Cowboys on the backend of their defense more than just his play on the field. He is a feisty and emotional player and his teammates on the defensive side of the ball feed off of his energy. No one really has been able to step up and be that type of leader thus far this season.

On the offensive side of the ball quarterback Tony Romo and wide receiver Dez Bryant are also huge losses because of their combined production together, but also because of their leadership on and off the field. Both players provide leadership in different ways, but both are effective nonetheless.

Bryant can sometimes be overly emotional and dramatic.

How many times have we seen his sideline outbursts that sometimes can be misconstrued as a diva attitude and a distraction for the team?

Honestly, I think I would like to see more of that type of attitude from some of the players on both sides of the ball.

Bryant is an emotional spark and his teammates seem to feed off that energy. I think it is one thing that the team misses from Bryant’s absent, other than his on the field production.

Romo’s presence on the field is missed probably the most. I think more than any other player on the team his play boost the overall playing level of the entire organization.

Romo raises the entire confidence level of the entire team. Everyone on the team knows that Romo has the ability to drive down the field at any given moment no matter what the circumstances might be. He exudes that persona of confidence and that is something that the team has dearly missed during his absence.

So, how can we team change their attitude with so many of their key leaders missing due to injuries?

I think it has to start with one of the players that is returning from suspension and making his debut in a Cowboys uniform, defensive end Greg Hardy.

Hardy can immediately come in and boost the Cowboys pass rush, but also add that emotional and fiery leadership that has been lacking the past few games.

If you’ve been paying attention to some of the things that have been going on this week I’m sure you’ve seen that Hardy is not shy about speaking up and voicing his opinion.

"“I hope I come out guns blazing,” Hardy told ESPN.com earlier this week. “I’m full of excitement and full of juice.”"

Now, that comment might put him in hot water with some people but for me it’s just an attitude that he’s going bring to this team and come out and do everything in his power to help the organization get back on track.

Like him or not, he is a Dallas Cowboy at least for the remainder of 2015.

Honestly, I would love to see him come out and set the tone of the game by making a big play on defense. Hopefully that will rally the team and provide that emotional spark that has seemed to disappear.

I’m not putting all of this on Hardy’s shoulders, but I do believe that he can help change the attitude of the team. At least until the Cowboys can get some of their other leaders back from injuries.

Whether or not an attitude adjustment is what this team needs, something has to change and fast or this season that started off with so much hope might end up just another disappointing one.
