The Dallas Cowboys will kick-off their first game of the 2014 NFL regular season against the San Francisco 49ers on Sunday afternoon, September 7th at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas. The game will air on the FOX Network starting at 3:25 p.m. CST, 4:25 p.m. EST, 1:25 p.m. PST.
The Cowboys are coming off their third 8-8 season and their fourth year without a postseason appearance. This offseason, Dallas lost key All-Pro defensive players DeMarcus Ware and Jason Hatcher. In their place, the Cowboys signed free agent defensive tackle Henry Melton. They also drafted defensive end DeMarcus Lawrence in the second round of the 2014 NFL Draft. The latter suffered a broken foot in July and is expected to return sometime mid-season.
The Niners finished their 2013 regular season going 12-4 and losing in the NFC championship game to the eventual Super Bowl winners, the Seattle Seahawks. This offseason, the 49ers added more fire power to their offense by trading a fourth round pick for wide receiver Stevie Johnson. Other roster additions included safety Antoine Bethea, cornerback Chris Cook, and quarterback Blaine Gabbert. Unfortunately, they also lost the majority of their starting defensive backfield. (Carlos Rogers, Donte Whitner, and Tarell Brown)
As indicated in red within the below coverage map, the Dallas/San Francisco matchup will dominate the FOX network’s late day football coverage. The game will also be the primary NFL contest broadcast in Hawaii and Alaska.
The Cowboys, Niners matchup is part of a two-game split, which also includes the Carolina Panthers vs. the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. That game will be broadcast within the blue areas of the above map instead of the Dallas, San Francisco contest.
