Both hosts then hammered on the defense.  Skip Bayless took his turn to vent…

  • 1)  As a lifetime Cowboys fan, he still has no faith in the defense.  Said they are now even worse on paper.  Asked why it was so bad last year.

Scandrick started to say they had many injuries, caught himself mid-sentence, and redirected that he won’t use injuries as an excuse.  Just that he meant when it’s time for the next man up, the next guy must be prepared and ready to go.

My translation = Dallas had to find back-up defenders off the street to even fill the 53-man gameday roster.  18 different DL were needed to play 4 positions on defense.  Now the team is much better prepared.

Quickly jumping at the mention of the word injury, the hosts rightly focused on Sean Lee going down…

  • 2)  Does Dallas have an answer to replace Sean Lee?

Orlando quickly and confidently replied “I think we do, I think we do”.    He said with younger guys working there and Justin Durant finally being healthy they will find it. Everyone just has to do a little more.  Didn’t seem unsure or overly worried.

Wanting resistance from the level Scandrick, Smith insultingly smeared Dallas for losing the elimination game 3 years straight…and to each divisional opponent.

He shook his head sarcastically and eluded Dallas has no chance to win the East because they can’t finish.  Smith then looked to Orlando for his defense to the aggressive verbal attack.  Being all class again, Scandrick said he had no excuses for any of that, but…

“We’re going to be better.  I have no excuses.  I sit here and tell you guys, we are going to be better”.  — CB Orlando Scandrick on ESPN First Take 7/16/14
